We came here during the height of covid and my children and I had a great time. It was open to private traffic for the first time in a long time, and we absolutely loved it.

My wife and I recently took our granddaughter and a friend to the Safari Park at Six Flags. We went on a weekday as the schools were closed. We enjoyed our visit and the girls really had fun. The entry fee is reasonable and the excursion is worthwhile. There are many animals and the experience was up close.

This was a fantastic way to get up close and personal with over 1200 wild animals from the comfort of your car. Amazing photo opportunities and great habitats and care for their animals.

During our school summer break we were looking for a fun family activity close to home. Something exciting enough for a 10 year old but relaxing enough for an 80 year old. We choose to go to Great Adventure's Safari Drive Thru in Jackson.
The Safari Drive Thru is a 350 acre animal preserve with over 1,200 animals from six continents and, on a hot summer day, you can see them all from the comfort of your own air conditioned car as you drive through the park. New to the park is the Xpedition Dino exhibit which can be combined with your Safari Drive Thru ticket for an extra fee and offers 30 life size dinosaurs complete with movements and sounds.
I ordered four tickets to the Safari Drive Thru online and printed them out to take to the park the next day. On the day of the trip, I added an additional passenger by ordering an electronic ticket which I can display on my cell phone to the attendant at the gate.
We arrived at the park at 2PM on a Tuesday. I discovered the entrance to the Safari Drive Thru had been moved from where I remember it. Previously, the Safari shared an entrance with Hurricane Harbor on your right as you enter the park from Route 537. (In fact Google maps City View still shows that entrance sign as being there.) Now, upon entering Great Adventures there is a new entrance which is still under construction during our visit - with orange cones set up on the right immediately after the Hurricane Harbor entrance that lead us to a gravel path and a Safari Drive Thru sign.
We stopped at the gate, had our tickets scanned by the attendant and was given a road map to the park. They also gave us a paper with QR codes to access audio tours for both the Drive Thru and the new Xpedition Dino exhibit from our cell phone. But I was able to play the audio tour for the Drive Thru portion from the Six Flags web site on my cell phone without using the QR code.
With the exception of the Xpedition Dino exhibit and fact that the lions and baboons were now caged, the Safari Drive Thru was the same as I remember it many years ago. Back then the lions and baboons roamed free as you drove through the park. But, the Safari Drive Thru was still as much fun and enjoyable as it was back then. Only, much safer for cars with the baboons and lions caged. We especially loved seeing the giraffes, zebras, water buffalos and brown bears close up. Unfortunately it was a hot summer day and many of the animals were either laying down, in the water or hiding in the shade away from the road. But it was still exciting to see the animals we could see during our visit.
We were not overly impressed with the Xpedition Dino exhibit. The dinosaurs look fake and moved like robots which took away from the whole experience. We wanted to see them do more than just slowly wag their tails, slowly open and close their month or slowly move their eyes. We hoped for more life like movements to go with their life size. The Xpedition Dino exhibit was added on a hilly gravel road to your left as your leave the Tiger Section (Tigris Asiana) and before you enter the Baboon Village. There was an attendant dedicated to the entrance of the Xpedition Dino exhibit who re-scanned all our tickets – so if you paid for this exhibit you want to keep your original tickets close by and accessible after you enter the park. At this point I used the QR mark the attendant gave us to access the audio tour for this exhibit – since it was not available on the Six Flag web site.
All in all, we had a great time at the Safari. One thing to know before you enter the park is that there are no rest rooms in the Safari Drive Thru. There is a port-a-potty close to the entrance at the start and there are rest rooms, food and drink after you exit the park. Our trip through the Safari and Xpedition Dino land took about 2 hours.

We went here with our grandson. It was well laid out and not too busy. You can get really close to the animals. We liked the audio tour also, be sure to use that. We added the dinosaur experience, that was lot of fun for only $5 a head.

We had a lot of fun with the Safari. We played the audio tour while driving in the car and enjoyed learning about the animals. The morning at 9:00am at the very first opening of the Safari of the day was pretty busy, we arrived at 8:50am and were in line waiting to enter until about 9:40am. Once inside however, it was great we were able to see all the animals and go at our own pace utilizing the two lanes. Years ago when I visited I remember the fear as the monkeys used to be able to climb on the vehicles however, I was very relieved to see that the monkeys are now set back a safe distance from all cars! We went ahead and got the Season Pass in order to get into the safari for free!

Spent just over an hour in the park, great for family with kids. The drive through Safari takes little over an hour.

As with many people trying to get out of house with their kids during covid, I decided to take my kids here when I used vacation time from work. I was probably last here 30+ years ago and haven’t done the safari since then. You have to buy a timed ticket but I’m not sure how much it matters what the time is. We left late and was probably 20 min past our time but seemed to not be a big deal. There was half decent amount of cars here for a late aug thurs morning. I would suggest getting here in morning since animals are more moving around. We saw tons of animals. There were multiple backups at the big animals (elephants, lions, tigers and giraffes) but eventually it would move and you got your turn to gawk at them. Probably 1.5 hrs to get though it and near the end you are just ready to be done with it. 4 people cost around $100 with the fees and taxes. It was fine to kill a few hours of the day. I wouldn’t go back probably ever again.. saw everything.

Hi All, Do we need to pay the processing fee at the park.. Is it good to book the ticket online or get it at the park - which is better?

where exactly is the entrance to the safari? Is it within the park itself?

The answer is: Within the park. Don't let the workers tell you it's near the fountain. It's not. You enter the park, turn left at the fountain and walk your legs off to get to the far corner - away from the Bizarro Ride and Superman Ride. It's a little beyond the Flume Ride. You get in line and wait for the open vehicle to drive you along. To make the ride seem more authentic they use vehicle without shock absorbers. I have heard older people say the bumping is murder on the back. I find it a little difficult and I'm only 70. It's a pleasant enough way to spend nearly half an hour sitting down. Animals are nice. Gone are the days of monkeys ripping your car apart or that one time a rhino totaled a Mercedes Benz. Everything is behind fences now. Enjoy
