Great acoustics - look for the annual Christmas in Carol and Song in early December - it sells out every season. Beautiful presentation by award winning choirs in a unique space.

I absolutely love walking around Kirkpatrick chapel. You do not see buildings like that anymore. The entire area is beautiful.

This chapel was designed by an African-American architecht. It has a little vely gothic feeling. The inside walls are painted a startling red. The organ is beautiful. Worth a visit if you can find parking.

Yes, he is the same guy who is in on the front of our $10. The chapel itself is a cute as can be. The history that surrounds this location in the middle of Rutgers college makes for more fun stroll.

This historic chapel, which dates back to 1873, is located in the heart of Rutgers University’s New Brunswick campus. As a Rutgers College alumni (Class of 1983!), this chapel will always be special to me. I remember the silent horror movies with the live organ performance by David Drinkwater that were a regular Halloween treat. However, the Sophia Astley Kirkpatrick Chapel is particularly special to me since my wife (Douglass College Class of 1981) and I were married here in 1988.
We recently returned to Kirkpatrick Chapel to attend the 2018 commencement ceremony of a friend who graduated from the New Brunswick Theological Seminary.
The visit brought back a lot of special memories! I was reminded of how beautiful a chapel this is inside and out. The gorgeous wood pews, arched wood ceiling and stunning stained glass are all well maintained. This is a great place to visit if you are in the area and is the perfect place for a memorable wedding.

This historic Chapel is as beautiful on the inside as it is on the outside. It is a non-denominational Church maintained as pristinely as possible.
It was built in 1873 and the architecture is Victorian Gothic. The grounds that it is built on is bathed in history. In 1776, Alexander Hamilton with his horse artillery, delayed the British troops across the Raritan River, while George Washington withdrew from Princeton to advance on towards Trenton. There is a plaque, just outside the Chapel, stating that this happened at that spot.
There are many portraits all around the inside walls that portray Rutgers Presidents, Trustees, and others, some dating back to the 18th century. The stained glass windows are gorgeous, and many of them are donated as class gifts designated by the year of the students’ graduations. The window behind the Altar is stunning, but our favorite window of all was the one above the main entrance, -- that of the Governor of NJ, William Franklin, signing the Old Queen’s Charter in 1766.
The Garden State Historic Preservation Trust takes care of this architectural gem right on the Rutgers University Campus. We had attended a wedding here a few years back, and had always wanted to return and examine the place without a crowd present. So glad we had this chance.

Kirkpatrick is a quiet place to visit at Rutgers, one of the more historic buildings at the university. It would be nice if the buildings' portraits and stained glass included more explanation on site, but it's still a place to stop and reflect. Plus it's right next to the train station and the Rutgers Geology museum (two doors down), and only a block from the Zimmerli Art Museum.
