The Passaic River ends in Newark Bay.

I would think about that as there is a lot of walking around the paths. If she was just going to walk around the parking lot and see the falls that would be one thing but there is a some walking involved. Also, right now the parking lot is being rebuilt so I would wait until the Spring when they finish or she will have to do some real walking. I hope this helps.

Good morning, I am sorry to just be getting to your question now. Paterson is no different than any other city or busy downtown center. You would want to take the same precautions here that you would in any location. Any place has the potential to be dangerous. I work here, and speaking for myself, I feel comfortable, but everyone needs to make that decision for themselves. The park is not located in the highest crime sections of the city. Most people come to visit the park between sunrise and sunset, because those are the best times to take pictures of the falls. Our Welcome Center is open Wednesday-Monday from 10AM - 4:30PM, and on Tuesdays as staffing permits. We also provide general public tours this time of year at 2PM Monday, Wednesday-Friday, and 11AM and 2PM on weekends and add more tour times in mid May. We do have some short walking paths, but they aren't large hikes. Our newest trail, the Stoney Ridge trail, was recently re-opened and is .6 miles connecting an scenic overlook to the Upper Raceway trail. Our next special event is this Saturday, 11/18. We are co-hosting the event with the Paterson Museum and the Silver Cloud dancers to celebrate Native American Indian Heritage Month and will be held at the Paterson Museum at 2 Market Street. No trails unfortunately. Landlocked in the middle of the city there is a footbridge and some stairs to climb around the falls and very small park areas surrounding.

No problem bringing a dog. There is no food in the park but the very famous Libby's Hot Texas Weiners is wi in 2 blocks. You probably could put in an order and eat overlooking the river.

The falls park is closed after 4pm. You can still walk to the bridge it is a public bridge after 4pm.

The best time to visit the falls is anytime. Right now that the foliage is out it is quite beautiful.
