I went to the Whippany Historic Cemetery on my own time to see the Revolutionary War grave sites. Many of the first families of Morris County are buried here. The Tuttle and Pope families seem to be most prevalent.
You have take time to visit each section of the cemetery to see each family plot and read the plaques.

The Whippany Burying Yard may look like an ordinary cemetery but it is a glimpse into the past of the town and the important people who made this town what is today. The people who are buried here helped build the town and the first families whose ancestors are still part of the town.
I visited during the "Pathways to History" event and the tour guide was a retired professor who knew the whole history of the town as he grew up here. He told us the stories of the important people buried here and how they shaped the town's growth.
We went plot by plot for an hour and it was fascinating to hear stories of people who were part of the fabric that made New Jersey grow and their contributions to the State.
If a tour is offered, please go on it!

If you are interested in Local History then take time to visit the 1718 Whippany Burying Yard which is the oldest cemetery in Morris County. Within this historic graveyard are gravestones of Revolutionary War Soldiers and veterans from various wars along with prominent families from the area. There is a map of the cemetery/names of those interred here located just inside the cemetery at the side entrance next to JR Cigars Outlet store parking lot, which is where we parked to visit the cemetery.
