I've been in Nakhon Si Thammarat province in the southern gulf of Thailand since 2017 2020 Though Just now again in June 2024 it hasn't changed a great deal - its a place where things are unfolding nice & slow & not to much - Heartland southern Thailand the jungle province, home to about 1.56 Thai nationals. A Thai hotel family have just opened LUX Talay Khanom Hotel & they have another gorgeous new funky Resort YOKATA 7km down the long beach road, Next door to "AAVA resort & spa" - AAVA too have dreamy luxurious ocean front Pool villas I highly recommend all three hotels for Khanom Beach . Between these hotels is 7kn of endless palm trees beach & jungle .
If your coming from Ko Samui its a ferry ride & about 20 minutes drive from the mainland ferry port to Khanom - drive through mountains timber and palm plantation forests the occasional wandering cow drive to the conditions & that is calm & peaceful./or fly in from Bangkok to Nakhon si Thammarat airport & organize a transfer its about 1 hour north to Khanom
I think it is perfect for young families there are not a lot here right now. Be planned with transport transfers etc, this is not the place you want to rely on the public transport i don't think - I haven't seen any (& that's not a bad thing) - The ocean here is more shallow and shallow for a ways out Perfect to get your young kids antiquated with Ocean Swimming.
The resorts I mentioned are medium to high price range but all three well worth the money, Exotic resort experiences- you really dont need to go anywhere they are fully catered - there are a few business around these remote Hair salon across from AAVA bike rental CCs next door about 10 bucks per day . Khanom seafood has 2 location 1 next door to AAVA & another a couple of Km's round into the Cove on the Hillside I recommend you go there its a Sublime place to enjoy Delicious Thai foods and seafood. The prices is a perfect as the foods.
i can see you could do it cheaper if your prepared to just go basic there are heaps of options really along Nadan beach road.
I ate lots of street & market foods in Khanom town and never once ended up /on or over the toilet so thats says something the local food here are cooked daily for the local consumption great markets with interesting new foods sweets fruits.
NOTE: I have the luxury of a Thai husband so it does make things a lot easier for me in this location. English is not widely spoken so plan your trip here meticulously end to end you will no be able to find easy help or support.

I'm currently on Khanom and I can agree with a lot of people. I walked on the beach for about 30 minutes and the rubbish was unbelievable. Glass bottles, endless plastic,.... I was obviously very disappointed. Unfortunately most of this rubbish from Koh Samui washes up. Luckily I didn't encounter any sand flies. The food is also not particularly good, apart from being expensive. I'm going to change resorts after 5 days in the hope that at least in a wellness spa resort the beach will be cleaned and the food will taste good again. Unfortunately it's also overpriced.

Breathtaking views from the resort room. I stayed at X-sea khanom harbor bay resort. The beaches are pretty and relaxing.

a new hotel at nai ploa beach X-sea hotel has just opened and is fabulous certainly the best accommodation in the area all rooms have sea view and well appointed the manager knows his stuff and runs a very good product.Buffet breakfast included, and they can arrange transport to and from airports.They are doing promotions on price at the moment so get in quick I give this hotel 4/12 stars areal treat to stay there.

Сам пляж так же великолепен как в прошлые визиты.
Место растет и развивается. За несколько лет появилось огромное количество отелей.
Далее по дороге viewpoints и национальный парк (бесплатный вьезд) с большим количесвом великолепных ресторанчиков.

I walked for kilometers in either direction on empty beach. Restaurants dotted the beach along the way. It was a refreshing change from the noise and throng of people on Samui. If you're into nightlife or bars, Khanom beach is not for you. Everyone I met in Khanom, along the beach and in the restaurants, was friendly and engaging. I will go back.

This beach is so quiet, in fact it was silent. I went swimming it is very clean and the beach was very clean.

มาแบบไม่ได้คาดหวังอะไร กลับได้เจอหาดสวย น้ำทะเลก็น่าเล่น สภาพธรรมชาติมากๆ ขยะถือว่าน้อยมาก น่าจะมาตั้งนานแล้ว มีรีสอร์ทราคาไม่แพงเยอะแยะ แต่ดันพักในเมือง รอบหน้าจะมานอนริมหาด ชมพระอาทิตย์ขึ้นซัก 2-3 วัน

My wife and I had a really wonderful stay at Ban Sabai Bungalows in the Nadan Beach area of Kanom, Nakhon Si Thammarat on the way to Koh Samui.
Owned by a Thai-French couple, both of whom speak English, the newly built (2022) four-unit resort is located along a very atmospheric bamboo shaded klong about a 5-minute drive from beautiful, long, white sand, shell covered beaches. One of the bungalows can accommodate up to 12 people.
We had a spacious, well-appointed, very comfortable air-conditioned room with a "river" view. Mean Kwan and Jean Pierre were wonderful warm-hearted and generous hosts. The included breakfast was delicious and though we could have had eggs and toast, instead we chose kao tum (rice soup with lots of delicious add-ins) and kanom ton (a distinctive custard-like coconut-filled sweet steamed in a banana leaf) which were served with fresh orange juice and many fruits. The property has a wide variety of beautiful plants, many of which Mean Kwan has grown and uses to decorate the rooms. She also makes a special herbal tea that, after cooling in the small room fridge, was great to come home to after a hot day and sip while sitting along the klong, or even while poling down down it for a short way on the bamboo/oil drum rafts the resort provides for free. Motorbikes for rent are also available. The surrounding area itself is cool and shady and has many tall coconut tree plantations where you might be able to see macaque monkeys doing the harvesting.
Since before coming to Ban Sabai we'd spent a week at a beach front place and needed a break from beach and sea time we were glad to learn Mean Kwan was a licensed guide and (for an extra charge, of course) we did one half-day and one full-day tour with her both of which were varied, fun, interesting, and highly recommended.
We really enjoyed our time at Ban Sabai with Mean Kwan and JP and would definitely like to visit again.
