The whole experience was just about OK. Nothing fancy about the bridge itself. The view over the canyon was good but not great

This is a really cool, scenic, thrilling bridge. You can park on the west side and then walk to the bridge. There are some good places on the walk to the bridge to take photos. My wife, who is afraid of heights, stopped there. But I needed to go out on the bridge.
There's a narrow pedestrian walkway on each side of the bridge. It's pretty scary and thrilling to look over the side, but you get some amazing views of the canyon and Rio Grande far below. It's especially nerve wracking as trucks whiz by, shaking the bridge. At several points there are phones that dial directly to the suicide hotline.
Halfway across, I waited for a break in the traffic and ran to the other side to walk back.

It's a bridge over a pretty deep canyon. There's a nice parking area on one side, but it was full when we visited. We were glad to drive over and see the view, but didn't bother to find other parking.

Spectacular views. There is a bit of walking involved but really stunning. I would rate it five stars but nothing else around the site but a rest area with local vendors.

Cooler than I thought it would be. Nothing like Mother Nature to put everyone in a positive mood. Breathtaking is an understatement. If you have a fear of heights, you probably shouldn’t walk across the bridge. Nice group of local vendors allied in the parking lot, and we got a couple of nice deals.

Just what it says; a bridge over the Rio Grande river. It is difficult to access the bridge; heavy traffic and narrow walkway make it very dangerous. Good picture spots.

What a cool place! So beautiful, and an amazing sight to see. It's almost unbelievable they could build something like this so long ago...! It's breathtaking being in the middle of the span and looking down, got a bit queasy there, had to hold onto the handrail walking back! A bit annoying was the phone in the middle of the bridge, beeping busy signal, on the suicide hotline! Kind of ironic... LOL A beautiful sight to see if you're in the area, very few places like this in the US. Recommend you stop and visit! PS There are a handful of vendors on the west end of the bridge, nice jewelry, pictures, etc.

Stopped at the Rio Grande Gorge Bridge on the way back to Santa Fe after visiting the Taos Pueblo. It’s the second highest bridge on the US highway system! I’m not a fan of heights, but it was worth the 15 minute stop to see the beautiful gorge and river from here center of the bridge!

Great views of the gorge from the bridge and nice views of the bridge from the western parking area. Take care on the narrow pavements on the bridge. Vendors in the parking area actually have some very nice and reasonably priced artwork. They are not at all pushy, so check them out. This is well worth a significant detour but is not really a destination in itself.

This bride left us awestruck. Walking g over it is terrifying and exciting. At the rest area there are several vendors peddling jewelry and art, worth a look. The best view is off the walking area behind the vendors.

Are tractor trailers allowed on the bridge? There is a proposed fuel station in Las Colonias that could increase traffic over the bridge. I’m concerned that the bridge isn’t strong enough for these oversized loads. It was built in 1965, and who would be there to enforce a restriction if it were to be built.

I would like to know where to take a photo of the Rio Grande gorge bridge where you can see most of the bridge and parts of the canyon at sunset. We drove all over today and couldn't really find a great place. The rest stop on the west side of the bridge was the best we found but didn't feel quite right for sunset. Is there a place upstream from the bridge to photograph from that you know of? I've seen photos online from this angle (I think).

US Highway 64 goes over the bridge. There usually is a lot of traffic during the day. When large trucks pass by, you can feel the bridge shake!
There are raised sidewalks on both sides, but no crosswalks. There are overlooks by the sidewalks with a phone connected to the suicide hotline if you are so inclined.

Yes dogs are allowed, we actually saw a few different families with their dogs on the bridge, one very huge one :) and two small ones

I would suggest driving to the John Dunn bridge which is a few miles upstream and allows you to actually put your feet in the water without climbing down a trail. The drive is very bumpy, mostly gravel, but very beautiful.

No There is no cost of any kind unless you choose to buy something from some of the local vendors that set up portable booths near the bridge. Nice little rest stop on the West end which is where most of the photos are taken.

Don't know about the Hot Springs. Hopefully someone else can answer that part. But if you stop at the Rest Station next to the bridge, there is a marked hiking trail. Bring water no matter what time of year. It is an easy hike, flat, low scrub brush, just don't get too close to the edge of the gorge, it's a low way down. You can hike as long and far as you like.
