The factory is open and they DO sell their delicious cheese to the public during business hours. No samples, no tours, just a few refrigerators in a room next to the main office stocked with an assortment of wonderful cheeses. We brought a larger cooler bag with us, knowing we would likely stop here and we weren't disappointed.

On this trip, they offered regular bricks of just about all their flavors at one price ($5.99 or $6.99/pound I think) and other bricks comprised of what appeared to be thick end slices from larger bricks at $2.99/lb I think (same cheese, but sold in "bricks comprised of 5-6 thick slices). In all, I think I left with 6 bricks of different varieties, some at the regular price and some at the reduced price, for about $21 which, for my money, is a steal! Thus far, the Green Chili Cheddar and the Chimayo (a mild cheese with red pepper) have been the favorites.

Some things to note:
- While the factory is easily accessible and about 5 minutes off I-40, their signage is not the best. While it's a large building, they do little or no advertising that they sell to the public and it's easy to miss if you're not sure what you're looking for.

- Again, they don't make a big deal out of selling to the public I think they have a marked Public Parking Area on the east side, so simply park on the east side of the building and enter through the doors on the SE corner. You'll walk into their offices and, if you don't know where you're going, just say you're there to buy cheese and someone will direct you to the cases.

- While it's not advertised as such, their cheese "shop" does function as an outlet store based on their production, so the selection and quantities may vary. Think they had about twice much cheese for sale on this visit as they had on our previous stop (when they were doing some cleaning/retooling). Also, last time, they didn't offer the reduced price bricks. Note that the cheese is vacuum sealed so you can buy in quantity and you don't have to eat it all immediately.

- Finally, I believe the "shop" is only open when the office and factory are open, meaning they don't keep regular retail hours. That means, you can likely only buy cheese during the day (and maybe only on weekdays?). If you're not sure if they're open, I suggest you call before you go to avoid disappointment.

With all that said, if you like cheese, picking up some Tucumcari Mountain Cheese is highly recommended and certainly worth the detour off I-40!

friendly, helpful staff, great cheeses! The green chiii cheddar and green chili jack cheeses are my all time favorites, but hard to find away from New Mexico. Well worth a brief stop off I-40. Not a tourist place with samples--just interesting cheese.

Loved seeing how cheese is made and they have great cheeses to pick from. Make sure you travel there with a cooler to buy a lot of cheese and keep it cool.

Don't spend your time going here, as they do not sell cheese here. You are also not allowed to take c tour of the facility.

The company no longer has tours and no longer sells local. Their natural cheeses are sold in Santa Fe and Albuquerque. The tours and selling to the public was stopped as safety measures according to a sign on the front door. I think their web site lists the locations that sell their cheese. I had went to the local super market and had been referred to the ranch supply. The ranch supply no longer gets cheese to sell; so I went back to the factory and talked to management. Their cheese is excellent and we bought some in Santa Fe. Hope this helps travelers putting together their plans.

They are no longer selling cheese out of the factory, you want to go to the Ranch Store on Lake St. Very friendly and they get the fresh cheeses daily. We got free samples and the bricks of cheese are $4.25/each. Great deal! They even gave us a free ice pack as we were traveling. They have a BBQ on Fridays as well :)

This is a small business that sells mostly wholesale to retailers. There is a bricked entrance with blue lattice and a silver door that says Welcome, for some reason this is not a public entrance and you will cause a lot of excitement if you try to enter here. If you want to purchase cheese or just take a peek at the factory, go to the smaller white door on the left side of the front of the building. Upon entering, you will see a small cheese display to your left. Stand just inside the door until someone attends to you. Health codes prevent a spur of the moment tour of the factory, but from the doorway you can see most of the operation and I was allowed to take pictures. We purchased a 10 oz block of Green Chile Jack for under $3.00 which I consider a good price. They didn't have change for a $20.00 so we rustled up three dollars in cash and the lady who attended to us had to go get change. It appears that they don't make a practice of selling from the factory. The factory looked very clean and smelled of bleach, the workers were dressed to satisfy health codes and also looked clean. We made our visit brief, but are glad we made the stop, the cheese is made of pasteurized whole milk, green chile, salt, cheese culture, and enzymes, the taste is excellent, should have purchased more!

I had read other Tripadvisor reviews about things to do in Tucumcari. So we went to the Cheese Factory. I am so glad I did.
I bought some Cheddar and Green Chile cheese. It really packs a punch. I'm sorry that I didn't get the Feta cheese. Well, next time...

I first found this great cheese by accident on the way to Albuquerque. Bought a couple of 10 oz, packages of the Green Chili, Jack. Liked it so well I stopped on the back to Fort Worth and purchased several to give to friends. They liked it so well that on my last trip I brought back 100 lb.
We have since discovered that if unopened it will keep for over a year and still taste fresh. A friend even froze some and said it was good and not crumbly when thawed.

This place is literally in te middle of nowhere. Go in the front door without the sign on it, and there's one case they sell cheese out of. You have to buy the feta in bulk, but it's so worth t! Asiago is good, too. They don't give tours, but it's a neat lilltle operation to see.
