The collection of various types of boats across the time line and references to historical land marks make it a very interesting place to visit. Quite a bit of info on evolution and developments of boats are available here.

Great displays/exhibits and history of boating in the area. Many refurbished boats including Chris Kraft. Also in the museum is a workshop where old classic boats are being refurbished. Dave the historian knows his stuff. 👍🏾

We were extremely fortunate enough to see the Lawson center today.
We were peering thru the windows and all of a sudden a gentleman asked if we'd like to see inside (normally closed on Fridays).
The boats, motors and other items in the facility were spectacular to say the least. I believe they are normally only open on Wednesday's and the weekend.
If you are there you need to check this place out if you are a boat lover.

Visited the Boat Museum with a group of friends. What a great place, even if you don’t think you like boats. They have many restored boats and motors from the 1920s on. They have had built Kayaks yo to 50 ft Chris Craft’s. All restored, and all great. Whether you are into boats, it’s a must see!

I am so impressed with what they have created with The Lawson Center. It used to house L. S. Aero Marina where I moored my stunning 18 horse power Johnson Custom Craft boat back in the early 60's. The place was ready to fall apart from repair neglect back then so I can't imagine how they were ever able to restore it to what it is today. And the best thing is that it is now a museum for those ever so lovely wooden speedboat type of boats that once dominated the waters of Lake Chautauqua.

It's just great that they have managed to use this old marina for this purpose as historically it has proof that it sold boats to Christopher Columbus Smith way before he even founded his Chris-Craft boat building corporation. And as such it also represents more than any other place, what boating has been all about on Lake Chautauqua.

The facility houses some of the finest examples I've seen of early wooden boats, particularly Chris-Craft, but better than that, it's a learning and educational center. For those interested in old boats, they have shop manuals and information you just can't find elsewhere. So, if you're in the process of a wooden speedboat restoration, you might want to check it out.

It is also excellent with children even have a boating simulator so they might learn what it is like to be behind the helm of one of these early boats.

I confess I left the place still drooling over the beauty of the crafts they had on exhibit.

We’ve attended several monthly educational seminars hosted this year. All of which were informative, professional and highly educational. Prior to the presentations you have an opportunity to tour the two floors of the museum. Displays are well organized and presented. They have a great collection of outboard motors, early marine engines, canoes, wood run abouts, large cruisers and even an early 1900 automobile manufactured from the area, On top of that they have a free mixer with drinks and appetizers. Truly a local gem that we should all support and promote.

This is a small yet interesting collection of old motor boats, sail boats, and other water craft. Many nicely restored items. Easy to spend a relaxing hour.

We attended one of the center's summer talks on the local area (this one on the commercial ice industry on Chautauqua Lake). We used the opportunity to check out the exhibits. As a former college rower, I was surprised to see the rowing skulls hanging from the ceilings. There are also lots of boat items and beautiful wood motor boats. Worth the time to check this gem out.

This is an interesting place to visit if you want to learn more about antique and classic boats, antique outboard and inboard motors, photo displays of Chautauqua Lake from the 1800's and early 1900's, and artifacts from the Chautauqua Lake age of steam. L.S. Aero Marine, the historic boat dealer and marina at 73 Lakeside Drive, Bemus Point, New York sold boats directly from Christopher Columbus Smith before Chris-Craft Corporation even existed! The old boat dealership is now an exciting museum with exhibits and activities for the whole family. Hours are Saturdays, 10:00 - 05:00 and Sundays, 1:00 - 5:00. From July 1 through Labor day, they are also open on Wednesdays from 1:00 - 5:00. Admission is $5 for adults. Members, Children under 18 and active military families are always free.
