Beaches & Seafood Restaurants Galore

A small island not well known, only a couple of miles long. There are a lot of small beaches at the end of each dead-end street up and down the island, and an endless selection of seafood restaurants the entire length of main street. During the summer I imagine this spot is packed beyond belief given the number and size of the restaurants, and parking is probably very limited. There was a nice quirky toy shop we visited with a lot of memories from yesteryear.

Disappointment and stress

It's very dirty. It is an island gone bad, full of rich, greedy, and rude people, with lots of empty stores, and angry, yelling 😠 people.
I tried to walk the beach. The owner told me he owned the beach and 250 feet into the water. It was a day of stress and disappointment.

Visit City Island on a sunny summer day

City Island is its own little world in the Bronx. It has fantastic views of the bay including Manhattan, wonderful restaurants and an interesting little museum. The main street, City Island Avenue is where all the shops, galleries and restaurants are located.

On a warm summer day, it is a nice place to visit and just relax. There is so much to do and see and then stop for meals.

I live in the Bronx and I can go anywhere to get seafood! I go to City Island because of the variety of restaurants!

I have never gone to City Island and been disappointed. The fish is always fresh and plentiful. Whether I go to a formal sitdown or an informal take-your-order-and--find -a-seat restaurant. This is a lovely place to relax, celebrate or just have a seafood meal.

IT's a nice view as it's something different than the rest of the city. It's good to change it up and go there once a while. I haven't been there this year

Cool Place for a visit by Bike on the Mosholu-Pelham Greenway

Recently did the full Mosholu-Pelham Greenway from Van Cortland Park to City Island (22 miles R/T). I had read about City Island and always wanted to see it. Went on a weekday, so it was not crowded at all. The one main street is very interesting with lots of shops and restaurants (many at the far end). We did a few side streets down to the water and the old houses with beautiful back yards overlooking the bay and the NYC skyline were very cool to see. We had a great late lunch at the "Shrimp Box" where we ordered at an inside window and they brought the meal out to us in a nice tented patio area. It was hot on 6/1, so we were glad to have the cover, and a place to park our bikes. The Shrimp Box food was very tasty and plentiful and we would highly recommend them. We didn't see any beaches, but the bike ride through the island was great. City Island is not exactly Nantucket or the Vineyard as some reviewers have suggested, but rather a funky, fun get away place that is an interesting visit for everyone- don't miss it!

dont permit cars on the island! traffic absolute nitemare, best to take bus. dont even think of going there on a holiday unless you sleep in your car and leave at 3am to get there by dinner time

while island is beautiful and scenic restaurants are too over priced, small portions. i have yet to meet an impressive staff or at least one worker that was impressive.

they rush you in and out!

Motorcycle Friendly Restaurants!

Many restaurants to choose from on the strip. Friday - Sunday you hear the motorcycle pipes roaring by. Almost all of the restaurants have valet parking, you can park your own bike and take your keys. Just tip the valet for watching your motorcycle. Many restaurants have outdoor dining.

Not a fan of City Island. This place is way overpriced. Several restaurants all selling the same dishes. Some places have valet parking. Not a lot of places to park. I'd avoid this area if possible.
