The layout is a bit confusing because of loopy trails. It’s easy to be disoriented and there’s no map pamphlet to be found. You might want to use a GPS on your smartphone.
It’s more for a family event. 3 hours wouldn’t be enough to see all the animals. If you’re tired of walking, then monorail would probably be better.
I felt sad for some animals such as the Himalayan cheetah,and tigers. They were walking in circle because of small enclosures. I hope they can expand some spaces.

At first I was a little scared about purchasing tickets from a website that is not the actual company, but everything went great and I will do it again. It was fast and easy!!

It was a wonderful to spend the morning of Memorial Day at the Bronx Zoo. We wanted to see the rare red panda so we parked in the Asia Parking Lot (Parking Lot A). As New York locals we like having an annual membership to the Bronx Zoo which also lets you go to other NYC nature experiences managed by the Wildlife Conservation Society in the NYC area. It was exciting to see both a red panda and a snow leopard taking a nap in the Himalayan Highland area. The shaded walkways through trees were a nice reprieve from walking the streets of New York City.

I went to this zoo with my extended family and so had to rent a wheelchair. This zoo has a LOT of hills, so be prepared for this. Overall, not much to say other than it was a very nice, clean zoo with lots of animals. Everyone had a good time.

A wonderful day in May 2023 for me for my 76th birthday and my younger friend from Plymouth, Devon UK. We came to NY for 5 nights specially to visit the zoo and had a wonderful day. The animals and birds so well cared for in lovely spacious enclosures, and all staff so welcoming and helpful.(everyone from the entrance gate to the exit 7 hours later). Jason introduced us to lovely Hans Solo the sloth. The food in the canteen was good, and our suitcases on return to the UK were crammed with nice hoodies, T shirts , Christmas decorations and two sloth toys!!

After watching the TV show, my wife and I had to make a visit during our NYC trip. We rode the express bus from Midtown (Madison Avenue) and found the service to be excellent (drops you off in front of the Bronx River entrance). In addition, the bus itself was clean and comfortable. The zoo grounds are very nice - - more like a walk along a forested path in a park than a typical concrete zoo path. The animal exhibits are well maintained and the variety of animals is extensive. The monorail through the Asia exhibits is very worthwhile and allows excellent animal viewing. In terms of "don't miss", we would say the gorilla exhibit as there are a number of gorillas and they were quite close to the viewing windows.

I was surprised at just how big this zoo is. The zoo seems to be well maintained and had a wide variety of exhibits to view. The tiger exhibit was, in my opinion, the best part of the experience.

Does anyone have a rough idea how many miles you would walk to see the zoo? Wonder for mother's electric scooter. If the battery would last.

From the subway station (Farms...) it is a short walk, but if you are with a car, the zoo has a lot of parking places, which are nearby the entrance of the zoo. The zoo itself is off course a lot of walking, it is a beautiful park. If the battery would last I don't know, it depend to the capacity of the battery. We saw a lot of people with electric scooters, may be you can find more information on the website of the zoo. Some of the subway stations have an elevator.

This depends on what you want to see and how long that you want to spend on each area. On a nice day you can easily spend four hours here.
The best thing to do is plan ahead on the things you want to see because on a busy summer day, the place can be very busy.
If you are going with a family, my advice is to buy a family membership and then you can go unlimited number of times and then go back when you want to at any time.
