I’m a fan of Edgar Allan Poe and was excited to visit his home. It’s small and unassuming, but the Poe family seemed to enjoy living here, although his wife died of tuberculosis in this house. Entrance is only $5, and you can also dial in to an audio tour from your phone. The staff were friendly and knowledgeable, and there are subway stations nearby.

Fui al final de mi viaje a Nueva York y lo encontré de casualidad mirando la página de web de una chica que vive allí y se dedica a explorarlo.
Edgar Allan Poe es mi autor favorito así que, simplemente, tenía que ir. Me pareció un descubrimiento genial, ya que puedes ver cómo era la vida de Edgar Allan Poe, te explican sobre su historia y que si Edgar Allan Poe no hubiese vivido en la casa los últimos tres años de su vida (coincidiendo con su época de mayor producción literaria), estaría derruida al igual que todas las que había alrededor.
También puedes llevarte como recuerdo por 3 dolares cosas como impresos modo carta de poemas con la letra de Edgar Allan Poe.
La única pena es que cuando fui los exteriores estaban en obras, así que no es muy estético para sacar fotos y no puedes ver la parte exterior demasiado bien.

Don’t miss this little gem-A great overview of Poe’s life presented by knowledgeable and friendly guide- tour of the preserved 1840’s farmhouse where Poe lived in the rural Bronx- Brings to life Poe’s literary and personal life in his last two years.

Yesterday Sunday, November 3,2019 as I wandered weak and weary, I happened upon the Edgar Allen Poe Cottage on Kingsbridge Road where the famous poet and storyteller lived with his wife Virginia and her Mother in law. Being a self admitted history dork, I was thrilled to see a well preserved example of life in the Bronx when it was considered "the country!" I was greeted by the cordial and extremely knowledgeable caretaker/Tour Guide and host a one Mr. Glen Martinez. He showed me around the tiny cottage and took me through the time that the Poe's were in residence in the Bronx. The house is tiny, but through Glen's expert stort telling,I felt that I could actually picture Poe writing at the small table in the parlor while Virgina was in her bed room off the parlor slowly dying of the disease that finally took her life- Tuberculosis. The cottage is a must see for anyone who loves 18th century literature and NYC history. Glen presents the stories with such authority, you would think that he was a witness to this particular part of history. Do yourself a favor and visit the Poe Cottage. If Glen isn't there or out to lunch, sit down on the porch and wait for him to return!

Un lieu étonnant car un contraste saisissant entre cette minuscule maison, perdue au milieu de la ville moderne. Il se dégage une infinie tristesse, à l'image des années vécues par Poe dans ce lieu.

Very interesting for history and literature buffs to be in the rooms where Poe lived with his beloved wife and wrote. The house is smaill and you don't need alot of time.

We stopped by the Edgar Allan Poe Cottage on a Saturday morning and were a bit concerned at first that it may not be open. Upon closer inspection, the area is under a bit of construction. Don’t let the size of this little cottage fool you, it is a major piece of Poe history. It was his last known residence and the location where he lost his beloved wife to tuberculosis. Her actual deathbed is one of the pieces original to the cottage. We’ve been to both the Baltimore and Philadelphia Poe locations and found the docent here far more knowledgeable and entertaining than the others. Interesting, educational and informative and for a $5 donation.... can’t say that about many locations. Pay the cottage a visit and help keep Poe’s memory alive.

the old building can be located on the concourse near the kingbridge. the get here by taking the D train hope off at Kingsbridge in the bronx. easy to find.

Situated in the middle of the Bronx, this little historic home is a surprisingly fascinating trip back in history. The tour guides are historians and you can tell that they are proud to share their knowledge of the house and it's former residents. Check for operating hours before scheduling your visit.

The cottage is small. It does not have a lot of the poet's things and furniture but I had always wanted to visit. I took an eleven year old and she loved it. The bed in one of the rooms is the actual bed that his wife/cousin died in. As morbid as it sounds we both thought that was pretty cool. A 17 minute video of the history of the area, the cottage and the poet is shown. There are souvenirs to buy, you can take pictures with a cut out of Poe, view the small rooms and get lost in a time past. It is a quick tour. A small cottage, but informative. It cost $5.00 for adults and $3.00 for children.

Yes there is. It's small though. As soon as you enter the cottage you're there. It is the same place where you will be paying your entrance fee.

the newer building "the Raven" is open M-F...
