Our guide, Daisy, was awesome. She was informative, relatable and full of fun and evocative details about Armstrong’s life, which she conveyed with knowledge and enthusiasm. She also spoke with clarity, which we appreciated since one of us is hearing-impaired. Both the exhibit and the tour give a good sense of Louis Armstrong the man, as well as his life in historical and cultural context. Kudos to the museum and staff!

If you enjoy the era of Louis Armstrong you will love this tour of his home. It is well presented. The rooms become alive with his recordings. A step back in history to see how this icon lived with his wife. Thank you Daisy for a wonderful tour!

We were in the area for the us open and I saw this location was nearby. We took a lyft up from the queens zoo area.
Louis arnstrong was a key figure in North American music in the 20th century, and this house and the tour tell us why. His wife cleverly found and bought the house in 1943 and gave him a base.
Most of the clips in the exhibit across the street are superb. I especially liked the selections from the Tivoli garden performance (I have also been there, it still exists) in 1933. Listen to his piece at 7:26, wow!
He was also a humanitarian and concerned with civil rights.
Thanks Lucia for a great tour.
Would highly recommend this site for a visit to musicians and lovers of jazz.

This is a hidden gem in Queens that no jazz lover should miss. With the combo ticket, you can have a 50-minute docent-led tour of the house (our docent from Spain was fabulous) and a visit to the incredible museum across the street. Photos inside the house are not permitted. I was 20 minutes late because of problems on the F train. I called the museum as soon as we got to 74th St where I had cell service again to let them know. When I got there, I asked the tall woman if I could join the next tour. She told me no. I saw the group that was after mine. It had less people. The woman at the desk could have easily looked at mta.info to see there were delays on the F and she could have let me join the next tour. I went on the tour to check it out for elderly family visiting in the fall. I regret to say I won't take them here because of my experience. There should be some accommodation in a city like NYC where regular people rely on the subway to get around.

If you love music, jazz and history you will love visiting this museum. The house Louis lived in with his wife Lucille from 1942 until his death is in its original condition. The rooms vibrate with their presence. In the studio, you hear recordings of Louis speaking about life and playing his magnificent trumpet. Across the street the brand new museum features interactive exhibits. The staff is helpful and friendly and informative, especially Michaela who took us on a tour of the house. Another staff member spent lots of time with us and took a picture of us with the great man. Fabulous experience!

I visited this place a year or two ago, before the new museum and archive center opened (it just opened July 6, 2023). It was, and still is, one of my favorite things in New York.

Louis Armstrong was a talented, loving, gentle person. Viewing his home and hearing personal recordings, seeing his scrapbooks and learning about his love of collage making, you can’t help but love the man.

The new archives building across the street houses the bulk Louis’s recordings, letters, materials. It’s the largest of any single jazz musician. The new exhibit, which you can view before or after your tour of the home, took some of the original artifacts displayed in the gift shop and downstairs of the home and gussied them up a bit. You can see his scrapbooks, album covers, one of his horns, photos. The really cool thing they have added is the listening component. There is a large console in the middle of the room where you can listen and view all things Louis: his marriage, his love of collage, his fashion, his duet partners, his ambassador trips around the world, and more.

All of the staff are so welcoming and informative.

This was an amazing place before. It’s even better now. 20 dollars for both the home tour and exhibit across the street.

Close walk to the temple canteen and Corona plaza, so you can make a day of it. About 3-4/10 of a mile from the 7 train.

AMAZING VISIT TO SATCHMO'S HOME
This place is preserved just as Louis and Lucille lived in it. The guides are informative and very interesting with tidbits about a great American and musician. You can feel his presence. The finishing touches are being added to a large, fancy museum, which will open right across the street later this in 2023. Parking is hard to find. GO. IT IS A VERY SPECIAL EXPERIENCE.

Queens has a lot to offer. This house is a time capsule, preserved from the 70s.

The guides offer a video first and then a 40 minute tour through the home.

He documented his life well and snippets of audio recordings are offered in his own words.

Whether you are interested in his contribution to music,to civil rights, or to his neighbors you will enjoy this home museum.

A really moving experience to be in Louis and Lucille Armstrong’s house. The original furnishings are still there, and there are knowledgeable tour guides and recordings of the Armstrongs played throughout.
