Reinstein Woods is beautiful and enjoyable in warm weather and cold. I am, however, greatly disappointed that it is closed on Sundays, a day when those of us who work all week most need to relax and be in nature. I'm amazed that the preserve wants to exclude people on what would be one of its two most popular days to visit. I also think it's unfortunate they are not renting cross country skii equipment again this winter, blaming covid. I am all for vaccination, masking, and other precautions when warranted, but this just seems to be a major cop out. Risks can be mitigated the same way other businesses do. It's almost as if Reinstein wants to keep people away, when people need to be outside and in nature more than ever.

08/10/20 Our continued daily walking hike through this Covid-19 pandemic period took us to a great walking park in Cheektowaga, NY. It is on the Northeast side of Stiglmeier Park.
It was on of my favorite hiking areas that we have visited, as you walk though an old growth forest with numerous ponds, some filled with massive growths of water lilies that would have made Monet proud to paint.
Even though it was a hot day, being under the forest canopy kept us cool, with an occasional breeze.
Plenty of well marked and maintained trails.
If you are lucky, there is also some wildlife to see. We were lucky to see a beautiful Buck!
Great place to walk !

Thank you Reinstein Family for leaving this lovely piece of heaven on earth to enjoy. We visited Memorial Day morning seeking a quiet natural place to walk & enjoy the sunshine. I grew up in this area & always thought Reinstein Woods was part of Stiglmeier Park. Not so. There are several interconnecting trails throughout the Preserve, each with a theme. My favorite trail circles the “lake” actually a huge lily pond filled with fish, turtles & frogs. The lily plants were just starting to flower, so the pond must be gorgeous now. There are several places to sit & take in the scenery. The boardwalk trail takes you to a vantage point of the lily pond where you can listen to the frogs & their mating calls. I observed 2 small deer browsing along the pond shore as well. The Education Center was closed as this was a holiday; but the park itself was open. A wonderful hidden gem in WNY!

My husband and I came here for the first time today and we will definitely be back! It's a great place for a nice long walk. Wouldn't really call it a hike. The trails are well maintained. There are restrooms at the beginning of the trails, that were open on a Sunday, while the rest of the other buildings were closed. We saw deer, snakes, baby beavers, turkeys and sunbathing turtles. Great nature walk, kid friendly, many elderly people were on the trails as well. There's a decent amount of benches scattered throughout the trails. We will definitely be back!

Reinstein had been recommended to me by a cousin, since we both love to be out in the woods. A friend and I decided to go on a glorious spring day..(Tuesday, the first of May)............perfect temperature and a lovely blue sky! We picked up a map of the trails in the Visitors Center (it has a more technical name). We took our time and I took a lot of pictures.
We were on the final stretch headed back to the Visitors Center, rest rooms and parking lot, approaching the stone cabin when we noticed smoke ahead, and a few hikers standing around. It turns out a tree had come down and taken some live electrical wires down. The tree was NOT laying across the trail but one of the wires WAS laying on part of the trail, and as we got closer we could see the flames, very close to the trail. I suggested to my friend that we quickly get beyond the small fire since there was plenty of room to get by. By this time staff was arriving and right after we passed the small fire, they started turning hikers back and now allowing them to pass by. And then we heard the fire trucks which arrived and drove past us before we finished and exited the trail. MY FIRST FOREST FIRE!!!!
When we exited the trail, we realized that all of the trails had been closed (large signs) due to the fire. More emergency vehicles arrived. After using the rest room in the Visitors Center, we walked out on the short boardwalk, which was the only trail still open. We could see the action from the end.
I realize now what a catastrophe this could have turned into and what a vulnerable position my friend and I (as well as other hikers) could have found ourselves in IF this fire had quickly spread. Thankfully, it didn't.
Now that I have told my story........................Reinstein Woods has wonderful well maintained trails, good interpretive signs (I especially liked the State Symbols Trail), a nice Visitors Center with good rest rooms and it is generally a great place to experience the beauty of nature. I hope to return in both the summer and fall.

Had gone for a tour with 11 other women on snowshoes. This is the first time most of us had done snowshoeing, we had fun. We were on the trails for about 1 1/2 hr and the sun was shining and a light snow, a perfect day. Our guide was great as we stopped along the way and learned about trees, animals and different vegetation for the animals

Well... My grandUghter has a football game tomorrow at Losson Road and I'm wondering if small dogs are allowed ? 8 lbs and 9.8 lbs. they don't leave my lap. We would be sitting on the sidelines for aprox 1 hour at about 2 pm.

Could a person with mobility problems use the trails with a scooter?
ReinsteinWoods
纽约州Depew
Reinstein Woods welcomes people using scooters, due to mobility problems, on the trails. Additionally, Reinstein Woods has a scooter that is available for loan during the hours the Reinstein Woods Environmental Education Center is open. You can call (716) 683-5959 or visit our website and search for "scooter" for details.
Do they allow dogs?
ReinsteinWoods
纽约州Depew
I apologize for the slow response- we had trouble getting into Trip Advisor to respond to you. Reinstein Woods does not allow dogs in the nature preserve. There is some evidence that allowing dogs in a nature preserve can have negative effects on the variety of birds that live there. We appreciate you leaving pets at home.
Taxi service to Buffalo airport.
Greyhound bus service
Distanhce to Greyhound bus service in downtown buffalo
ReinsteinWoods
纽约州Depew
Thank you for your interest! Here are answers to your questions:
Reinstein Woods is less than six miles from the Buffalo Niagara International Airport, so it is not a long taxi ride. (We are also only 2.5 miles from the Amtrak Station on Dick Road in Depew.)
Reinstein Woods is about 9 miles from the Greyhound bus station in downtown Buffalo. For NFTA Metro Bus service, the #69 Alden route goes down Rowley Road, which intersects with Honorine Drive only a few blocks from Reinstein Woods; however that bus has a very limited schedule. The #1 William route stops at Appletree Business Park frequently most days. This is about a 2-mile walk or bike ride from Reinstein Woods. (Como Park Boulevard has a bike lane for much of the distance from the Business Park to Reinstein Woods.)
I hope this information is helpful to you!
