The owner here is a very mean man. He is rude sarcastic, and is not helpful when you are having trouble putting your glider together for the first time. I had trouble assembling mine and when I asked him for help he screamed at me. I don't care who you are, you don't yell at customers like that.
Also, Greg has two training hills. One very small one and a second large hill. He will refuse to let you do your regular training on the second hill because it costs him money to transport you over there. His price may seem reasonable but you will find very quickly that you're not learning anything on that tiny hill. My suggestion is to go to Randall Airport. They have an excellent flight school there for hang gliders and you don't have to walk up the hill because he has scooter tow training which is much more fun.

Greg is a great instructor you will def get your money's worth! More challenging tht I thought. hardest part is balancing the glider on your shoulders. but you will get the hang of it

I took my girlfriend and she did great, Gregg was very encouraging. She was able to fly off the ground a decent distance in her first day of lessons. I had taken classes there in the past so I wanted to introduce her to the experience as well. We camped out overnight on the training hill in our tent. It's a great experience.

What a great place! Greg is a great instructor with a great safety record! Just know that your safety is his #1 priority! I went for a intro lesson about a year prior to returning back to Mountain Wings. During the intro lesson when my feet left the ground I was hooked.. I couldn't stop thinking about it, so much that I came back and signed up for the Eagle package. Hang gliding is a fun to learn and you will meet a lot of great people. I'm so glad I did it, and so will you! I'm not off the mountain yet but I know with Greg's guidance I will safely be off that mountain launch flying above Ellenville!

Three years ago we drove 5 hours across the state with friends and our son for the introduction course.
Immediately we were stunned by the ramshackle space and rocks and mud at the base of the beginners hill. While doing the paperwork a woman, not an instructor but a flier, warned us that Greg is brusk. Then we watched him berate someone who had purchased the eagle package but hadn't shown up to Greg's satisfaction.
The introduction was fine. The other instructors really tried to counteract the overwhelming rudeness of Greg. If we messed up, tripped or fell, anything, we were prone to his insults. He went so far as to tell one woman that "Being fat was probably in her way." By the end of the lesson she was in tears and her husband was furious.
Their information boasts no injuries at their school, which is also false. Due to tripping on a rock in the landing area I ended up on crutches for 8 weeks, and one of my friends blew out her knee because of a fall over a rock. The staff was a great help in caring for our injuries.
In fact, other than Greg, the staff was amazing, knowledgeable and fun. The only person Greg didn't berate was our 16yo son because he did very well, and had the longest flight of the day. The only reason I am not giving them a bottom rating is because of the other instructors.
If you can avoid Greg, and have a discount, give it a try.

Our daughter wanted to try hang gliding for her 16th birthday and a Living Social discount happened to pop up for this place. We had a group of 5 and one other person showed up that day as part of our class. Robert was our instructor. He was warm, friendly and made sure everyone was engaged and having fun. You started by running with the glider to experience the lift and worked your way up a hill traveling down with the glider. It can feel somewhat overwhelming trying to remember everything while actually running and performing however Robert was outstanding at providing verbal feedback and direction in a strong manner which resulted in rapid success without ever feeling like it was too difficult. There is a fair amount of waiting for wind conditions depending on time of year but we would recommend it and are thinking about booking a private day just to experience more of it. You must be 16 and under 18 requires parents signature. It can be mildly strenuous but for anyone moderately active you can succeed at leaving the ground and feeling the excitement.
