We walked the Green Lake to Round Lake Trail. It was an easy hike on a well maintained trail with a bonus of a few restrooms along the way. The colors in the lake were incredible. We stopped many times to marvel at the water. Many other trails were available at the park. We went on a Monday and there were not too many people on the trail. There were beautiful well-cared for beaches on each side of Green Lake. Extremely easy access to the trails from the parking lot. Highly recommend this location.

There was our second visit to this campground and it is by far our favorite. All state parks in New York are something extra special but Green Lakes is the best of all. It’s big , not far from town, very clean and well kept. We already made plans to come heee next June.

Beautiful Lakes with terrific hiking trails. Completely unique scene. Big beach and loads of parking. Lots of signs that were confusing with repeat info.

The lakes are gorgeous. But the crowds? Ugh. And the campgrounds are nothing special. Great hiking trails tho. Was able finally to rent a kayak at 6 pm. That’s when you can really appreciate the beauty of the lake.

Came here for the first time with my wife on a late-September Saturday, and we had a wonderful time. We started by kayaking on Green Lake, which was very enjoyable, and easy on the budget. We were out for nearly an hour and it was only $10 for the both of us. We followed that up with a picnic lunch at the Tulip Hill parking area, which we had entirely to ourselves. After that we headed over to Round Lake, which was lovely; very peaceful and relaxing. I would've liked to explore some of the hiking trails beyond Round Lake, but it was getting late so that will have to wait for another day.
A few observations: 1) on this visit, there was no entrance fee, which was nice; 2) neither lake struck me as particularly green. If I looked straight down at the water from my kayak, I could see a greenish tint, but from the shore it was not noticeable. I suspect it's more visible from the air. But no matter, it's still beautiful, and the water was strikingly clear. 3) There is a trail along the shoreline of both lakes, but to get to Round Lake you will have to walk a bit as there is no parking area adjacent to Round Lake. Nothing strenuous, unless you have difficulty walking. The shoreline trails are flat so I think they would accommodate wheelchairs. 4) We were both quite impressed with the maintenance and facilities. There were ample, clean restrooms, a large playground and beach (which was closed for swimming on our visit), and although I took our trash with us, there was a trash barrel in the picnic area.
All in all, this was a delightful park to visit, and I hope to return to do so some hiking and check out the on-site restaurant at the golf course clubhouse, which gets good reviews. We'll be back!

This is definitely one of the best State Parks in the area. The water and beach is so clear and clean, and the picnic area is very well maintained. The only bad things are the bathrooms can get pretty gross on a busy day, and it can get very crowded here as it’s very popular. They also have some excellent hiking trails, playgrounds, a beach store, a snack shack, and open bottom kayaks for rentals.

Beautiful nature ruined by people being loud/obnoxious and no enforcement of quiet hours by the park staff. As usual, it's the nasty 5% of people who ruin if for the remaining 95%. Green Lakes should be treasured and have the quality of campers and wildlife in mind. It's only good for the trails for a day hike. Camping in the summer up to early autumn is NOISY. Boo-hiss to the poor management.

A beautiful park! The lake is so gorgeous and clean. There are life guards so it is very safe for children. I spent the day there with my family and there were picnic tables for us to enjoy our own food and drinks. I have never seen a lake like this one. I would definitely come again!

I had a 2 night camping reservation here as I was traveling and heading home to NC. The park itself was beautiful with a lot of amenities. The lake area was so crowded and the water looked gross I’m the swimming areas but the trails were lovely. The camping was so disappointing. The sites are on top of each other with no shade. I was able to move sites for the first night. I pulled up to my site and on either side of me there were families of about 7 with zero trees or anything between the sites. I was able to move for the night and then decided to leave even though I had paid for the site because I thought the camping was terribly. What a shame to have all of the sites on top of each other when there’s so much space in the park. I can’t see myself returning.

Above answer correct at the time. All restrooms now open for the season. During Winter restroom only available at park office and West Beach

Are members of the public allowed to go topless? I recall reading that state parks in New York allow topless patrons but I’d like to be sure

Yes, in the State of New York women are allowed to go topless in State Parks. It’s not very common anymore but was extremely popular in the 90’s

how well equipped are the cabins and can I rent one for just one night in september?

There are 7 cabins (although numbered 1-8, there is no Cabin 2 for some reason) and they are all the same. They have master bedrooms with a double bed, a common room with two twin beds and a fireplace, a screened porch, a bathroom (no shower, just sink and toilet), a dining nook, and a kitchen with refrigerator, sink and stove. They are actually quite beautiful cabins and new inside. In summer you must rent them for 7 days minimum but I believe in off-peak season (after Labor Day) they can be rented by the day.
