I took the Twilight Christmas Tour at Boscobel this weekend and it was excellent! What a nice tour. I was able to tour the grounds before the tour and get some beautiful pictures of the house and grounds. The home's location on the Hudson River was one of the best I have ever seen. The views were fantastic.
The inside of the house was decorated for Christmas as if the family would be entertaining guests for Christmas dinner and the bedrooms and Grand Hall were decorated for entertaining. Here and there were touches of a Federalist Christmas so things were not as elaborate as they would have been during Victorian times. It was garland and fruits all over the place and bright lights of candles (electric of course) and a simple table tree with small gifts underneath. The Dining Room table was set for Christmas lunch which would have been served after church services.
The outside of the house was decorated with white lights along with the gardens and orchards. It was spectacular in appearance after dark Then when we returned from the tour, they had Hot Chocolate, Hot Cider, Christmas cookies, candy and sweets for us in the Visitors Center as part of the tour package. It was a nice touch and the whole tour was $25.00. That was a very fair price for this wonderful evening experience of the home during the holidays.

The Boscobel House & Gardens is an absolute amazing attraction and a must visit destination of Putnam County, New York. The estate includes a gorgeous historic house museum, beautiful gardens and orchards and striking views of the Hudson River.
In September of 2023, I brought and treated
myself and my wife for a guided tour of the Boscobel House & Gardens and we both thoroughly enjoyed our visit.
Our tour guide did a great job on discussing the history of the house and its occupants as well as explaining the house’s architectural features and many antique furnishings.
During the tour, my wife and I learned that the Boscobel House is considered a Federal style home and that it was built by States Dyckman, an American loyalist during the American revolution. The home was fully completed in 1808 and its was first located in Montrose, New York. While States Dyckman didn’t live long enough to see the completion of Boscobel his wife and descendants would reside there until the 20th Century.
To save it from demolition, Boscobel was relocated to its present location Garrison, New York and today, serves as an historic house museum.
In addition to enjoying the tour, both my wife and I loved viewing the beautiful gardens, and were definitely captivated by the breathtaking views of the Hudson River. It was definitely a sight to behold and we definitely made sure to picture of this majestic scenery.
If you enjoy touring historic homes, visiting gardens and viewing magnificent landscapes, then you should make plans to stop by and explore Boscobel House & Gardens.

Interesting history tied into the Revolutionary Period. Beautiful grounds with tremendous views of the Hudson River and West Point Military Academy. The tour guide was excellent!

After spending the day at the lovely Cold springs, we did a pit stop here to explore the grounds. BEAUTIFUL historic property. Ticket entry allows full access. Lots of beautiful buildings, greenhouses, and view of the river/mountains. You can really get a decent amount of hiking/walking in here.

Lovely view of the marsh, Hudson River, and West Point that makes one feel as though they’ve stepped into another world or onto the canvas of a 3-D painting. Price charged for grounds access was a bit steep, however, given the visit took less than an hour. We’ll definitely get the house tour next time and get the bundle.

The Boscobel house was owned by the Dyckman family. It is a beautiful representation of neoclassical architecture with a wonderful collection of New York furniture (Duncan Phyfe) from the Federal period. The symmetry outside and within was amazing. The gardens represent what the family would have grown (based on historical receipts). There is a trail that takes you through woods if you are looking for a short hike. The views from the grounds of the mountains and the Hudson River with West Point across the way are amazing. History abounds with a story about how an iron link chain (a piece is on display) was used across the Hudson River during the American Revolution to stop the British fleet from making its way up the river.
Our tour guide, Stephen, was very knowledgable about the history of the home, its furnishings and gardens. It was a joy to listen to him.
The admission of $24 per adult for the guided tour of the home (approx. 1 hour) was well worth it. The admission also included the grounds as well. It takes an additional hour to tour the gardens, but we spent approx. 2 hours. We enjoyed sitting on a bench overlooking the Hudson River and taking in its beauty.

only spent one hour here. the hike is pleasant (shaded woods, well-marked trail). otherwise not much to see and it was pretty boring. my brother went a different time and said the house tour was really interesting, but it was closed the day we were there. 2 and a half stars.

Some mixed feelings about Boscobel... I've known of the gardens for a while and have been meaning to visit based on the great reviews and their website. I was a bit disappointed when I finally made the trip though.
There are very limited things to do/see. Right now, the house is closed. There is a small herb garden and a central garden too. There is a lovely sweeping view of Hudson with the Marsh below..making for some gret photo ops on clear days... But...that's about it...
There are some hiking trails which I ventured into but nothing more than the usual trail....trees...dirt...rocks. No signs, or exhibits, or facts along the way.
I think, for what they offer, the current $12 is a bit much. $6-8 would be more appropriate. I will have to return when the house re-opens, that may make the visit worthwhile.
Also, there are some events there from time to time...such as "Applefest" which may also be worth the visit...
The few staff members I encountered were friendly and helpful. There was one person checking names as you enter into the parking lot (ample parking spaces) and another person at the visitor's check-in building to check you in, give you an admission sticker and answer any questions you have.

Boscobel House is a great day out for all the family. The house is interesting, there is a great play area for children and the staff were friendly and helpful. I particularly enjoyed the interactive candles in the house. The only thing that would have made it better for me would have been the inclusion of more details in the house itself. There wasnt much about the house and the rooms within it or the priest holes the king hid in. Overall though worth a visit

With the house closed for COVID, how much time should we spend for our visit to tour the grounds?
撰写日期:2022年1月20日
I would recommend the tour inside the house it is very informative. The tour takes about 60 minutes depending on the size of the tour group.
The tour inside the house also gives you access to the grounds which I would recommend a walk through the grounds as well. I thought the grounds were very well maintained and you do have an amazing view.

Hi I was wondering is it possible to wright off the site fee you pay at Boscobel for a wedding as a donation for your taxes?
撰写日期:2017年1月5日
From IRS Pub. 526 "If you receive a benefit as a result of making a contribution to a qualified organization, you can deduct only the amount of your contribution that is more than the value of the benefit you receive." So no, unless you are paying more than the fair market value for using the site, you do not have a charitable deduction.
