Our daughters favorite hike- because around every corner there are more little waterfalls to see before getting to the end. Easy hike. Very pretty

I saw the photos but when I parked for the walk to it, I was concerned. It was well worth the stroll and an easy one. Ithica Falls was very pretty with its cascading over the rocks and size. Highly recommend the stop.

Beautiful and accessible waterfall. Easy to view from the foot bridge through the campus. So many waterfalls in this area, and they are all equally beautiful!

According to the map, the fall is 156-ft tall, a respectable height inside a city. The easy way to view it is at the lookout point on the Lake St. bridge although the view is somewhat obstructed by trees. A better way is to hike down to the Ithaca Falls Natural Area where you can get as close as you want to the waterfall. At the time we visited, free parking is available at the lot at the intersection of Lake and Falls St.

Nice views for all. Lucifer falls is the best one. But the ones in state parks require a fee to get in. That's BS.

There are three places to view this falls--from the top, from a little bridge overlook on the street and from, what we then discovered, is a lovely natural area just beside the street overlook.
We started from the top, driving into the Cornell campus. There is street parking on the hill, if you are lucky enough to nab a spot.
The lovely view of the water flowing over the top of the waterfall is unfortunately marred by graffiti.
After driving down the hill, taking a few wrong turns, we arrived at the base of the falls.
One can see it from the street, but to get a better and more up close view, there is a natural area to the right of the street viewing area where one can descend and move closer.
The area is strewn with small rocks and there is a chain to grab when you get closer to the falls; it can be pretty wet down there.
The natural area is a great place to take pictures.

Ithaca has an abundance of waterfalls and Ithaca Waterfalls is one of the nicest ones, despite the lack of water in the area. Very easy to find, and not much hiking to do in order to see them.

Absolutely spectacular I love waterfalls and this is the closest I’ve ever been able to get to one in the US. To be able to go and walk along the bottom and go up to the waterfall it is so relaxing.

No, it's not legal there because it is dangerous, and there is no life guard But there are a large number of falls nearby, where swimming is allowed. Buttermilk State Park, on Route 13 south out of Ithaca, has swimming, a life guard and a bath house. Camping facilities can be reserved on the New York State Park website. Further out on Route 13 is Robert H. Treman State Park. "The Lower Robert" Park has wonderful falls and swimming as well as great trails and camping.

I'm afraid not, at least not if you'd like to get close to the falls. There's a road that crosses the river that flows from the falls and viewing the falls from that bridge would be possible. The path to the falls, however, is quite rocky and rough.

Hello -- We are visiting Ithaca in early July just for 2 days and will have one full day (Sunday July 2) to do some sight seeing. We are staying in downtown area and plan to spend the morning either at the Robert Tremen Park or Butter Milk Park, then head back to Ithaca Falls in the afternoon, plus the Commons and/or the Farmers Market. Am I being too ambitious? I'd appreciate your insight!
P.S. We will visit Cornell campus on Monday.

That sounds like a lot in one day. Ithaca Falls will hold you about 30 minutes, not more. The others (except for Buttermilk) are all close together and should fit neatly into your day. Buttermilk is a bit out of town, and should not take more than half an hour to see, unless you decide to hike some of the trails. I hope you enjoy your visit.

buttermilk falls, nice,but a strenous hike to the top and back, suggest you go to lucifer falls, and go to the upper end of the park and walk down, i was more impressed with this one. and if you have a chance, don't miss Taughannock falls, about 8 miles north of Ithaca.

I really did not see any pets on the trails except for Taughannock and the ones within the city. I personally would be concerned about the pet's, your's and other's safety. The popular trails can have many people in them. The trails have some narrow areas, as well as wet pathways. Hope this helps.

Are we talking about Buttermilk Falls, a NY state park in Ithaca or something else??? I want to know about Buttermilk Falls, how hard, or easy to navigate etc., and dfurther there is not a fee to enter any NY state park if you are 62 or older, on non-holiday weekdays, but I believe there is a weekend fee regardless of age. At least that's how it worked for us a couple years ago at Letchworth State Park, which also has falls. Thanks.

I was just at Buttermilk Falls last weekend, and yes, there is a $7.00 fee to drive your car into the parking lot and park there. I'm not quite 62 years old yet, but I am retired military, and that did not get me in for free. The one piece of good news, if you object to paying the fee, is that you can use your receipt to get into any other state park for free for the rest of the day.
By the way, you can also walk into Buttermilk Falls from the road without paying a fee. To "navigate" the falls on foot, there is a long, steep trail with many stairs that goes up the right side of the falls, and will take you to 4-5 other minor waterfalls farther up the hill. These stairs may be too steep or long for some seniors or those with impaired mobility, but most people can handle it without undue effort. Have fun!
