My husband and two daughters went to the museum for a nice Sunday afternoon out and unfortunately we were only there for 10-15 minutes max because an employee literally kept staring at us (not even subtly) as we tried to enjoy the exhibits - We have never felt so uncomfortable in our lives it was horrible. We moved to one side and she moved also and just stood there staring as if we were going to steal something - I asked her if there was a reason she was staring and she said "they have to watch everybody" although there were others in the museum that werent being watched - so instead of feeling uncomfortable, we left - the supervisor tried to offer complementary tickets to come back another time but I wouldn't want to risk that happening again and having my family feel so uncomfortable again.

If you live in the upstate, or are in the city heading upstate, or coming back from the upstate, this is a must-see museum that is only a few minutes out of the way if you head down on the east side of the Hudson. The current show, "Arrivals" blew us away as being one of the most moving shows we have seen in the past few years in any museum, and also one of the best curated and displayed. This show deals with perspectives on migrations to the US land, and presents exquisitely selected pieces, each of which fits into an impressive whole. My guess is that this museum always has good shows. This one is not to be missed.

I went to this museum in August 2020, which was during COVID, and this was one of the first museums to reopen. The Bisa Butler exhibit was wonderful but the experience of being in this museum was overwhelmingly awful. It was a one way flow with boxes marked on the floor and only one party could be in a box at a time even if it was a party of one. One of the docents was so annoying that she literally followed me around and reprimanded me for stepping into the wrong box even if I was the only one in the gallery at the time. I received conflicting information from different docents and where one could step. The experience was so utterly bad that I was close to tears when I left, I called and emailed the director to complain but just received a quick response saying that it would be looked into. I have since been to numerous other museums in NYC as well as surrounding areas and the experiences have all been different but wonderful, nothing like the treatment received here. Proceed with caution or wait until the pandemic is long over.

Amazing exhibit of a woman who uses fabric to elevate already extraordinary black and white photographs of African Americans. Hard to explain unless you see it or at least order a catalog. Covid Compliant. Masks and social distance required. Patrons only allowed in one direction in the exhibit halls and, again, clearly marked distancing.

This was far to expensive to walk around for 10 min for 3 rooms of art. Not worth a trip or 20 bucks they charge u to get in

The museum changes exhibits several times a year making this a great destination often. The guided tour at 230 is part of your admission and well worth it. Interactive tour with great insights.

This is an incredible museum that represents a host of artist from around the country and world. Has an annual students art show that is supervised by the Museum but put together by a committee of students. It is the one show a year where kids can have recognition of their art like a professional. Schools coming from this side of the Hudson River as well as on the other and into Connecticut have received accolades from distinguished papers like the New York Times and Daily News along with county papers. The Show this year went on for three weeks with an opportunity to buy their works. A powerful statement that they will have on their resumes if they should go on to colleges of Art & Design. Besides this format there is a program for youngsters to participate in art programs in a separate room off the main gallery. Events take place year round and in the Summer there are outdoor concerts and readings. Being a non for profit organization many of the staff have come a long way in having their lives and work appreciated on a professional level. In the beginning the Katonah Museum was housed in the town's library. First in the attic and then moved to a space on the lower level. For many years it was called the Katonah Gallery which took on volunteer women and men who were interested in the arts. Out of their efforts and dedication the Gallery drew in more recognition for its variety of artists. Shows representing arts of Asia, of the once Native Indians of the Lower Hudson Valley with their crafts and customs, they have had artisans from Scandinavia, and so forth. And because of popularity it was then decided to expand into a larger building and so it later became what it is today...The Katonah Museum. One note...through this gallery/museum an adjunct group was formed called The Katonah Museum Artists Association which has members representing their art and talents creating a more diversified community. I highly recommend you visiting this Museum on Jay Street outside of the town of Katonah, New York.

It’s refreshing to visit a museum small enough to view everything on exhibit without spending hours there. The modern building often has interesting exhibits, including a few outdoor sculptures. It is en route to Caramoor, a perfect stop before a concert.

We are accustomed to the big-city museums of NY and LA, so for those familiar with those kinds of museums, the quality will not disappoint. Lovely building with a couple of spacious galleries, a smaller gallery dedicated to local artists, and another space for kids activities. We did not tour the grounds as we were visiting in winter. We saw a show of contemporary Muslim artists based in the US and in their native countries. The exhibition included work by internationally recognized, and was very well curated. Would definitely visit again!
