This museum has a well curated, explained and displayed collection. The architecture, interior and exterior design of the buildings is a beautiful work of art in itself. The timed entry process made for good crowd control so it is easy the view the art works . It was wonderful to view the Boubare exhibition and to see masterpieces by Picasso and others.

Contemporary art is not for everyone. Good museum, good space, the art in it is so subjective that I only recommend this museum to open minded people who don't have much to do on a Saturday morning.

We came for the "Greater New York" exhibit which featured local community artists, although many were born elsewhere. We were able to attend one artist talk that was interesting focusing on the photography of Hiram Maristany.
The art ranged from sculpture, photography, film and projection to sound. There was even an exhibit of items tumbled on site.
This space has changing exhibits and you should see what is on offer before going.
It is inexpensive. They have a store and restaurant on site.
When we were there, they had time tickets and mask indoors were required.

I don't normally love modern art, but this collection (esp the NY-centered exhibits) were unique and very thought-provoking. The setting in a restored public school brought me right back to elementary school days.

It was definitely quite a bit smaller than expected, but there were a few interesting exhibits, and the staff were very nice and welcoming.

Not expensive but small... Nice way to kill a couple of hours. Nothing really special but the exhibits do change. Check first before going.

For $10 per person, you can enjoy a great verify of empty rooms.
We want our money back for the tickets, subway ride, and time wasted coming here.

We came here all the way from Manhattan, spent 30 minutes one way on a subway, and when we entered the museum, it was empty... Like, there is so much space. If this building were used as a shelter for homeless people, it would be better to use the square footage it occupies.

This is MoMA’s more experimental space, and I like it a lot! It’s in a cool, old school building, with great exposed brick and wooden floors. Beautiful large windows with tons of light. Feels less snobby or pretentious than many other NYC museums. The art is also edgier, maybe even more controversial. More raw. And I like that.

My favorite experience here was an expansive exhibit focusing on the art of incarcerated prisoners. The work was beautiful, moving. Sometimes heart-wrenching. I wish I had been able to spend more time with each piece, to truly digest the gravity and the pain, but the spaces are small, and only so many people are allowed to be in one room at a time due to COVID restrictions.

There was also a neat, colorful, and cheeky Niki de Saint Phalle sculpture exhibit. It tied in with some of her more serious social justice work.

There is a cafe that offers counter service and has a big courtyard for outdoor dining. I didn’t try it, but it would have topped off a great experience.

I almost passed up this museum, but I ended up enjoying it very much, probably even more than the main MoMA campus. I’ll keep an eye out for future events.
