There is always a lot going on at this, even beautiful stretch of beach. Whether on weekends or during the week, small and large groups come together, well equipped for barbecues, picnics. As you enjoy rum, it gets louder and more fun. Each group has a huge music booster with them, which is a loud spot. The marine park should be a snorkeling area, unfortunately with the years almost nothing of colorful fish left, very disappointing. the entire reef belt around Mauritius is almost destroyed.

Oh you need to go there do the bottom glass experience if u love sea life and it's nature and fish all is there drive thru and enjoy this place

Blue Bay Marine Park has something for everyone. Families come to picnic, spend time sunbathing or swim. There are glass bottom boats which allow you to see the beautiful coral and fish. You are also allowed to snorkel among the exotic fish. Definitely an unforgettable experience. There are vendors selling food, ice-cream and various other snacks if you intend on spending the day.

The Marine Park is amazing by glass bottom boat or to snorkle off a boat, just north of the marine park is amazing snorkling too. Between Blue Bay and Pointe D'esny, just swimming and snorkling there is amazing coral and ocean life to experience. And you can just walk in from the beach snorkle for as long as you want.

Though I have been often at this area, I never visited the marine park until yesterday morning.
I was very much disappointed. I consider that more professionalism and adaptation to new conditions (be it financial/economic/climatic/tourist/environmental...). We should not keep on playing victims of nature. When we have been appointed/charged with responsibilities/provided with the necessary support, either we deliver or we quit. This is not a marine park. Until it becomes one, this label must be removed.

Sad. We paid for a guided tour and Blue Bay was one of the points on the list.
This so-called "Glass bottom boat" is a boat with 3 holes of plastic that you can look down through. But they're driving so fast that you barely see anything.
The boat says we'll have an hour of snorkeling. 15min into the snorkeling and much of the corals are dying and there are not many different fishes. They're also starting to blow and splash us back into the boat. We don't understand why because we've only snorkeled for 15 minutes, but we start swimming back.
Then they're gonna start whistling at us more and fan, and then they're gonna say we have to get off the boat. We barely got 30min snorkeling, and then we spent a long time in because we didn't understand what they were trying to say.
But a lot of dead coral and little of all they say is so amazing.

There were coral masses still intact. The wildlife was clearly visible thanks to the crystal clear water. Few boats were present.

We went there through a local service provider, totof, and Andy took us there, reminding us that today the most beautiful corals are located especially around Île aux Aigrettes and Île Fouquets ( lighthouse island).
That said, if the setting is much less grandiose than I imagined, it is still superb with deep blue but translucent water.
Diving gave me a mixed opinion. Huge corals but unfortunately all bleached, no turtles but huge schools of multicolored fish (jacks, surgeonfish, angelfish, parrots....) among which I was able to swim but unfortunately not able to film my phone having fallen into battery failure at this time.
Still, wonderful memories remain.
For the multicolored corals I had my own corner between Trou d’eau bleue and Palmar where we stayed

Very disappointing, every day dozens of motorboats armored with tourists contribute to the degradation of the corals..., noise from motorboats, smells of gasoline, crowds, danger from rapid crossings of boats for swimmers, no charm.. . you see a lot more fish when you swim alone in blue bay

The best snorkeling I have had on Mauritius was on the Southeastern Coast of Blue Bay. I had been briefly to the Seychelles and can't speak as well to it.
Because of rising water temperatures, coral is dying all over the world. It is really sad. The fish are around but not as 20 years ago.

Is it possible to snorkel straight from the beach? Everyone mentions boat trips - we are experienced snorkellers and can cover large distances, would it be possible to swim out to where the boats are? Thank you!

Certainly you can snorkel from the beach, but about 15m from the beach there' a safety line you can't swim over because of boat traffic. You may arrange a snorkeling trip with a boat in other close beaches where there are less boats crossing. Have fun!

I am looking at mauritius for a holiday, we love snorkelling (having been divers) and chilling out, reading, sightseeing, good food, friendly and sun! i am a little concerned by the reviews about the corals and lack of fish. Had the same issue at the great barrier reef so do not want to spend lots of money to see dead coral and a few fish!! would love to swim with whale sharks, dolphins etc but only in the wild!
Any help would be gratefully received

Hi there,
Blue Bay is definitely NOT the place for open sea fish sightings. However, Mauritius has several operators who specialize in going outside the reefs and lagoons, where you can interact with large sea life. Some of the boat tours within the extensive lagoons, also go to the inner edge of the reef, but water there is very shallow in places on top of table corals, and you see few fish, though the coral is much healthier than closer to the beaches. Hope this helps.
