Montauk is an amazing experience. A perfect combination of beach and hiking trails, waterfront with fishing boats, tennis, golf, and wonderful restaurants.

Came with the family on a nice hot summers day. Staff were friendly. Sites were amazing and totally worth going up to the top of the lighthouse for the awesome views! Would strongly recommend coming here!

Was a foggy day when we got there.
Pretty expensive to get up to the lighthouse and then up to the top.
But of an exhibition but not really worth going.
Kids didn’t enjoy it at all.
Fog didn’t help (see photo!)

They have major construction going on….huge bulldozers…we were not able to go to the right of the lighthouse….but we were able to go to the left of the lighthouse where the restaurant is. This side was with a rocky shore but we were able to walk toward the water.

The whole area has things to do, whether you want to explore the beautiful lighthouse and museum or if you want to explore Camp Hero (as I did) and understand it's history. Or you can simply bring a picnic lunch, pull up a bench and enjoy watching the sea.

I walk the lighthouse almost every weekend and it never gets old. I have the empire pass so its free for me. The staff are friendly and they do a good job of keeping it clean.

A beautiful state park on the eastern tip of Long Island. Beautiful hikes overlooking the water, and lots of educational exhibits about the ecology of the area as well.

The Montauk Point Lighthouse is beautiful to see any tome of the year, but the most beautiful time to see it is at Christmas when the whole lighthouse is lit with thousands of lights. It is a very quiet serene setting. In warmer weather it is a nice place to just get away, have a little picnic lunch and enjoy the open pristine space without the crowds.
You can also visit the lighthouse itself, which is also a very interesting tour for kids and adults.

The days that i went to see the lighthouse weren't the best but it made the experience great because there were less people and just a nice peaceful atmosphere.

My wife and I drove out here around 430 pm. It was a nice drive of about an hour from Riverhead. Parking was free and they had a bunch of it. It is a nice walk down to the beach. It is very rocky so be careful. It was cool watching the surfers. The tide was out so a ton of rocks. The weather was nice but extremely windy. I guess a lot of boats have huge issues with the wind in that area. A restaurant was on site and couldn’t get into the lighthouse. It is still fenced off. I wish I could have stayed longer but the wife was freezing because of the wind.

We always come to Montauk for the summer but we are thinking about coming this winter. Would love to hike and see the seals. Any tips where to go without doing the "tour" thing. I've been coming to Montauk for 20 years so I know my way around.

It is 6.5 miles so that is a little too far to walk to. If you are in good shape perhaps you could.

What is the fee to get closer to the lighthouse and what is the fee to climb it. Are children the same fee? Any help will be appreciated.

There is an $8 fee to park in the Montauk Point State Park parking lot from 8:00am to 4:00pm. There is no charge for parking after 4:00pm.
Monday through Friday there is free parking for Senior Citizens (62 and older) holding a New York State Driver’s License. The NY State parking fee does not include admission to the Montauk Lighthouse property.
Admission to the museum is Adults $11
Seniors $8
Children* $5

How likely would I see seals on the Seals Haulout Trail Hike in Long Island around now, late May?

I think you would be very unlikely to see seals now. The state parks have stopped offering seal watching tours for the year, which is a good indication that there really are no more seals to be seen this year. You are most likely to see the seals in the cold, winter months. They seals start to return to the Montauk area in about mid-November.
