Extremely beautiful and very well maintained! The staff is extremely friendly and very knowledgeable! They helped us become familiar with the trails before heading out and gave us assistance with the snowshoes. The grounds are extremely beautiful and there are tons of trails to explore! Beautiful in the winter or the summer! My favorite was the Boreal Life Trail with the view of the mountains in the distance, but the Barnum Brook was my second favorite as it was less traveled and full of snow! I definitely will be coming back here in the summer to check out the trails and do some hiking when I’m in the area!

Went thereon a rainly day and was able to hike around the trails - therre are multiples of varying lengths. Great lodge area for those of us who cant walk well - windows overlooking nature area where youc an watch the birds and other scenery while waiting on hikers. There is a butterfly house but it was closed since it was already too late in the season - but would be fun in the summer.

This is a "must see" for traveling through the north ADK. The trails are spectacular in variation of environment. I especially recommend the blue trail by stream. Boreal also easy and nice.
In winter, there is a different spectacular scene. The loggers loop makes an international-level trail that can accommodate skiers side-by-side, of various skills. Grooming is meticulous, and a special feature on one side is a defined track which helps beginners keep skis parallel.
Separate trails for snow shoeing head through woods, along lakes, streams and marshes.
We loved it all!

This place is a hikers and nature lovers dream. The trails are very clearly marked and well maintained. I would rate the trails as moderate to moderate/easy. The surface of the trails is easy on the feet with only a few roots to scramble over. We enjoyed this quiet gem much that we went back for a 2nd day. We liked the Heron Marsh, Boreal Life, Barnum Brooks, and Black Pond trails the most. These trails offered nice diversity and had a few very nice scenic overlooks The Woods and Waters Trail was good, but it was much more woods than water. We didn’t have time to hike the Jenkins Mountain trail to the summit. Maybe another time.
This location is easy to find and there is ample parking. Beware though: once out on the trails the only places to take a leak are in the outhouses.
If you are traveling from the north towards Paul Smith’s, be sure to stop at scenic overlook that has stunning views of Lower Saint Regis Lake. with Jenkins Mountain in the background. This is located just before the entrance to Paul Smith’s VIC. It is well worth the stop, but there is only room for one or two cars to pull over.

We enjoyed the view and the well groomed trails and interpretive markers. Very pretty and well maintained. Free and open to the public.

Very nice trails, wide and lots of boardwalks on the trails we chose. Unfortunately, it was super-buggy...I suggest bringing bug spray and maybe a head net (we did!). Beautiful place to go for a hike. Unfortunately, the center wasn't opening until the day after we left.
The picnic pavilions are really nice, very clean and even have a grill available for use. Nice touch.

My wife and I snowshoe at Paul Smith's College this past Thursday. Bring exact change to buy your daily pass and it is on the honor system. All of these trails were beautifully groomed and very well marked for classic cross-country skiing, skating and or snowshoeing. We were snowshoeing on beautiful trails with beautiful scenery toward the Jenkins Mountain lookout. Unfortunately we did not time it will and did not make it all the way to the lookout but what we saw was absolutely stunning. The privies along the side were quite amusing and we took quite a few pictures. In the five hours we were there we only soar to loan skiers, two skiers from the college doing their work out and another young couple looking like their first time on cross-country skis. If you can go during the week. We will be going back there hopefully next year.

The building is beautiful. The bathrooms are great. Gift shop is nice. The nature exhibit is well done. The man at the front desk was very helpful explaining the trail choices. The interpretive trails are groomed very smooth including long stretches of board walk. Every interesction is marked with sign posts. Walks of 1, 2, or 3 miles are possible as well as longer hikes combining a few trails. We walked the Heron Marsh trail then branched off to the Brook and Boreal trails. They also have longer backcountry trails but we didn't hike them. We enjoyed seeing and photographing water lillies, a frog on a lilly pad, dragonflies, pitcher plants in bloom, a lot of amazing plants I didn't know the name of, and beautiful landscapes from tall forests to streams to ponds. Many decks and observation platforms to take photos from. IMO the best access to beautiful habitats in the Adirondacks. Look them up for all their programs.

Meilleur endroit à Saranac Lake pour faire une balade dans la montagne. Seulement à 17 km. distance de Saranac Lake, le lieu est plein des tracées pour tous les goûts et les difficultés ainsi que des petits lacs. Sérénité garantie.

Hi Alison! Thanks for your question. In the summer, we love having dogs at the VIC! We do allow leashed dogs on our trails and ask that pet parents dispose of their dogs waste. We have a space in the front of the building for dogs to wait in the shade, if you wanted to head inside of the building. Our winter dog policy varies depending on the snow and grooming conditions. Please check out our website for winter trail updates.
