The story of the people who worked hard to free slaves and have the practice of slavery abolished is told well here. However, there are several things I'd like to tell you before you go.

First, the HoF is on the second floor of a building that used to be a church. You enter the front door, and if nobody is there, be sure to push the button to ring the bell. A host will come down and start the 5 minute video for you, after which you can go upstairs to see the exhibits. Note that at first it may appear that this place is not handicapped accessible, but that is not true. Someone will need to summon a host to assist a wheelchair user or mobility impaired person, but the host will bring them around the side of the building to a lift to bring them to the second floor.

I'm generally not a big fan of halls of fame in general. Often, they focus on the honored individuals, and provide large panels of text that you end up standing in front of reading for lengthy periods of time. It can be hard on the legs and back and eyes, and a tiring (and sometimes boring) experience. That is true here to a degree, but the displays help to knit the individuals into the larger story of abolition, and the individual panels are only a portion of the display area. I think that a good balance is achieved.

While the story of abolition is important for children to learn, very young children will find nothing here to hold their attention. Wait until your kids are a little older to bring them here.

While you are in town, be sure to visit the Gerrit Smith estate, across the street on the next block. While there isn't a lot to see there, he was an amazing person and the main reason why the HoF is in this town in the first place, and you really need to learn about him.

John G. Fee was the founder of the college I currently attend. He was inducted into this Hall of Fame in October and I was able to witness it happen. It is a nice Museum and i encourage others to stop by for a visit.

Dedicated people involved in historic places there. Excellent for families, or solo. Nice gift shop. Photos aplenty.

This is a good, professional museum emphasizing the role of Central New York in the national cataclysm but a moderately through presentation of how the process developed and currents that were boiling up elsewhere. It is presented mainly as large posters which kids won't read but which will hold the attention of adults. Also don't miss the nearby Smith National Historical site.

Interesting history of the abolitionist movement, located in the village that was dominated by the abolitionist, Gerrit Smith. The history of Peterboro alone is interesting enough to merit a stop.

Very informative museum rich with history, both local and national, related to the antislavery movement. I learned a lot despite growing up nearby several years ago. Museum is in an old school that I played in as a kid which overlooks the old Peterboro Little League Field.
Museum covers the history of antislavery movement and also has exhibits which can be easily moved to another locale if you are interested in hosting. Limited hours only open on the summer weekends but stop in if you have the chance.

The National Abolition Hall of Fame is a wonderful museum that contains information about the many abolitionists who helped to end slavery. This museum is run by volunteers who are knowledgeable and dedicated to help spread the word.
