If you’re local it’s a wonderful trip to make. I took my 4 year old son to see the dinosaurs. We learned about them, explored the gardens and the veterans walk. What else could you ask for from a free public park?

I've know about this place for a while now but never made the time to make a trip...until last week. I made the 50-minute drive up from the Bronx on a Friday morning. I arrived late morning and there was still lots of parking available. The park itself is free. They charge if you want to hold and event there as well as for photography permits. You can go there and take casual photos but for anything like shooting professional photos for say...a wedding party...you will need a permit. The ground are beautiful and well kept. Lot of gardens to see and paths (both paved and grassed) to take. Tons of space to bring some chairs or a blanket and have a picnic. There are a bunch of building such as small museums, houses, and greenhouses which are not currently open due to COVID. There is lots of space to socially distance. I would love to return once this indoor attractions are open. There is a small Dinosaur garden area which has a few large dinosaur models with a few fun facts which is much appreciated for the kiddies. There is also a Chinese Garden area with a lake that is a little walk but all within the park. One of the highlights for me was the memorial trail. The trail is fairly short but had little monuments for each of the wars. There are bigger memorials areas for the KOrean and Vietnam wars. They even had ones for the women and dogs which I thought were really great. This place is a great place to come and relax or take a walk. I would highly recommend this place to every and anyone. I would love to return once the buildings are open.

Very nice place to get outside for a while, with lots of different areas to walk around. Dinosaur trail is great for kids, and the Japanese Garden was great for a nice little scenic walk, although it is a bit of a walk just to get to it from the main area of the park. I'd recommend getting there early like we did, by the time we left mid-afternoon it was much more crowded, which would make social distancing a little more challenging in certain areas. A hidden gem though!

We're there this past Sunday. Due to corona virus it seemed people were dying to get out from house. I saw people having picnic .. Surrounded just nature was breathtaking place!
Lasdon Park and Arboretum (95 ha / 234 acres) is a public park containing gardens and an arboretum (12 ha / 30 acres). It is located on New York State Route 35, Somers, New York, and open to the public daily without charge.
Sadly we didn't have a time to walk around Dinosaur park due to over crowded.
It was really beautiful place to walk around when you wanted to get out from city.
They close 4 pm

Holiday train display was amazing. The conservatory was filled with orchids and elves! Very fun and festive. The trails were well laid out & maintained. The veteran house is not to be missed. The women in war was an interactive display and ranger had a ton of information to share.

Went primarily for the Holiday decorations in the historic house. On display is a minature railroad set-up featuring a number of trains running through a landscape of local historic houses and the major New York City landmarks. Of course, there is also a Santa in residence for the kids. The rainforest in the small conservatory shows an abundance of orchids in all shapes and colors with tall, blooming brugmansias overhead.
Not to be missed is the small Veterans' Museum housing mostly uniforms and small arms. Of special interest may be the displays depicting women's evolving roles from caring for wounded to active combat duty over the decades. The entrance fee during this Holiday Season is $20 (no senior discount) but during the rest of the year there is only a fee for the Conservatory.

I didn't get a chance to see the whole park, but from what I saw it's a nice place to spend a day. I plan to go back.

This location has something for everyone. Dinosaurs for the young and young at heart mixed within the beautiful flowers. The lake is a great place for a quiet romantic lunch. The veteran walk is moving and historic. There is something for everyone.

Recently I returned to the Lasdon Conservatory for the annual orchid display.
While the conservatory is rather small, the orchids displayed were interesting and varied.
In better weather the grounds have trails for walking and it is a great place t spend an afternoon

While nothing here is on a large scale, there is enough to make a visit enjoyable if you don't get your expectations too high.
The conservatory (glass house), while not especially large, did have many nice plants including numerous beautiful orchids. A slow stroll through only takes 15 minutes, however.
One fun feature for kids (who might otherwise be bored at a place like this) is the dinosaur garden. There are small replicas of dinosaurs, signs telling about the plants that lived at the time those dinosaur species were around, and current day plants that are descendants of plants from those times or are similar. Like everything else at Lasdon, this feature isn't large but it is worth seeing.
I briefly visited the veterans' military museum, and there was a knowledgeable man there who told about the artifacts on display and answered questions. If you like military gear, weapons like bazookas and mortars, uniforms, and stuff like that, this is worth a visit. Again, small but nice.
I didn't have time to see the historic trees or hike some of the trails. I'll do that sometime if I make a return visit.
I agree with other reviewers, that a little more maintenance effort in trimming, labeling, and grooming the plant specimens would be beneficial here, but I would not say that the place was badly run down, in poor repair, or anything that extreme.
I was in the area and had the time and found this to be a worthwhile visit. I wouldn't go a long way to see Lasdon Park but I did enjoy spending a couple of hours here.

Hello, I would love to visit Lasdon park this coming weekend. I noticed that they will be having their Fall Fest & Train show and that tickets must be purchased for this event. Is is necessary to purchase tickets for this event to access the park, or can I just visit the park without participating in this event? Thank you in advance for any info.
