If you are "into" old historic buildings, you will love Clinton Square in Syracuse. For blocks around this park there are many older buildings. Parking is easy along the streets, and you don't have to walk far to see a lot of interesting architecture.

The total is a **, so don’t expect more. But you are not too far from downtown and not far either for the baseball stadium, which was the purpose of our trip.

What an amazing festive area! Was so impressed with how well it was decorated. You must stop here for this legendary landmark.

There's not a lot happening at Clinton Square.
But what it lacks in pomp and circumstance it more than makes up for in solemnity. This imposing structure gives pause, allowing you to forget--just for a moment--that you're surrounded by traffic on every side.
There isn't a lot of parking in the area, but it's certainly worth the stop.

The monument was the solo reason for a visit. The monument was is dedicated to the 12,265 men of Onondaga County who served in the Civil War. Two bronze sculptures,'The Call To Arms'-east side-and 'An Incident At Gettysburg'-left side. The monument consist of a granite pylon with attached Roman ionic column at the corners that support a heavy cornic with a carved frieze and crowned by a 18-28 foot globe guarded by an eagle at each corner grasping a thick garland.
The north & south sides feature granite reliefs of flags & military accoutrments. The plith features dedicated plaques with a quotation from President Abraham Lincoln's Gettysburg Address. The monument is approxmately 75 fee in height. The monument's corner stone was laid Memorial Day May 1, 1909 & dedicated June 21, 1910.
On both the east & west sides are three metal round tables with four chairs each, along with two trash cans. At the SW corner are four metal metal benches. In the same area is the Jerry Rescue Memorial dated October 1, 1851. William 'Jerry' Henry was an escaped slave from Missouri working as a cabinet & copper maker in Syracuse. On the October 1 date Jerry was apprehended & charged as a fugitive slave. That night a mob of Syracuse citizens-white & black stormed the city jail freeing Jerry to freedom and an escape to Kingston, Ontario by way of the Underground Railroad.
The fountain-which serves as a skating rink during the winter time-has arise & fall up to ten feet & ten seconds. Both the monument & memorial educational. The only drawback for a visit is a lack of parking. Probably most visitors will have little interest in either the monument & memorial, however a history buff might have an interest. A visit of any type is recommended.

Clinton Square represents the heart of Syracuse and contains the "Soldiers' and Sailors' Monument" surrounded by a fountain and shallow pool in the warmer months, which are replaced by an ice rink in winter.

Clean and Historical feel. Nice vibe and cosmopolitan sound. A band was playing. I didn't see a lot of parking however.

It's very nice and relaxing; they always have activities especially during the summer. There are festivals, jazz nights and the Xmas tree is lighted up as a tradition.

Clinton Square is in the heart of Syracuse. In warmer months a fountain and shallow pool take the place of what is an ice rink in winter. The area is also home to various local festivals and festivities.
Here you will see the Soldiers and Sailors Monument (built in 1910), as well as the (amazingly still-standing) bank buildings that surrounded this square back in the day that it was a part of the Erie Canal.

There was a FRI evening event going on, people came out, there were food trucks, beers, some tent vendors selling things. The Syracuse folks know how to have enjoy themselves. Apparently, this is where the Erie Canal used to cut through town, but you wouldn't know it, it's paved over. Seriously! How foolish for the city elders to make that call. Now, there is nothing, save a few nice old historic buildings many of them have windows boarded up, vacant first floor storefronts. Syracuse needs a revival.
