We visited the Onondaga Historical Museum on Saturday afternoon because we needed something to do for an hour in between lunch and a show at the Landmark Theater. What a pleasant surprise! The displays were very good and interesting and I would have liked more time. The suggested donation was $3 per person, a bargain. The bathrooms were clean. There is a store with interesting merchandise.

I went here with a group of 13 folks. We had arranged a tour. I think it is free to enter but we did pay $5 per person for the tour. The museum has more than on location. The web page lists the sites and displays at each.
The museum has some Intractive displays including video and audio as well as artifacts.
There are exhibits related to industrial Syracuse, the indigenous inhabitants before Syracuse was chartered, and the cities place in slavery, abolition, and women's suffrage.
Displays are laid out in an orderly way and easy to understand. The displays are attractive.
There are public restrooms and a well-stocked gift shop. There were many books on a variety of local and national topics. There were several art items for sale.
The tour was very interesting and I'm glad I had the opportunity to hear as well as see some of the history of Syracuse.
Be sure to allow enough time to appreciate all they have to share.
Parking is on the street with metered spots. There are kiosks for paying the parking fee.

We had a wonderful time at the museum! The staff were knowledgeable and friendly. The exhibits were very interesting and comprehensive. There was so much to look at! All the artifacts were well preserved and had a lot of explanation about them.
There was an exhibit that included an interactive portion that was very exciting to watch. It was so interesting to see all the different eras of Syracuse history.
I highly recommend this museum!!

This local history museum, covering several floors of densely packed, text heavy exhibits and a charming gift shop, is worth your time if you want to get a sense for what Syracuse once was. Unfortunately, the city seems quiet these days, and clearly has seen better times.
Coming to this museum, we got to get a sense of what Syracuse was like when it was a hopping, neon lit, up-and-coming city. Before the plants closed, before the canal was buried, and before all the highways and byways. A Syracuse with a thriving, lively downtown centered on a South Salina Street that looked like Broadway. That Syracuse is gone now, but you can remember it at this little museum. Be sure to donate when you come in so this institution can survive!

Strong collections of print, photographs, and some interesting artifacts. The exhibition curators have done outstanding work in interpretive stories about national themes in a local context. The arts and crafts objects and exhibits are exceptional. The African American exhibition with its slavery component is timely and thoughtful. The staff was welcoming and knowledgeable. All in all, a superior operation. Syracuse is fortunate to have the highly professional organization.

This place is so vast and in-depth history of the Syracuse area. You can see stuff made in area. Learn about the underground railroad in Syracuse. Come in and donate. You will be impressed

We spent almost two hours here, and enjoyed the information about local history, the underground railroad, women's rights, as well as a special exhibition about Gustav Stickley, and Victorian fashions, including a Charles Worth dress from c. 1870.

Wow. Really nice holiday tradition seeing the many trees decorated so beautifully. They are all for sale and reasonably priced
