We always visit the Maurocco Cocktail bar when we’re in Castlemaine, love the atmosphere and decor. It’s only open at the weekends so that makes a visit even more special.
The retro feel takes you back into a golden era and the collection of objects d’art is fascinating.
Of course the drinks, especially the cocktails are perfect for pre dinner drinks.

Great atmosphere and an attentive bartender that owns the joint and knows his stuff! My bourbon sidebar was powerful and a martini was delicious. The joint is eclectic and full of character.

This place is f*cking wild in the best kind of way. Great interior design and general ambiance - unique, to say the least. They also have a great clothes shop as well next door which they sometimes open, has some beautiful limited edition shirts, I bought three! The outdoor section is really nice in summer and surprisingly extensive

A great bar with an excellent atmosphere and a lovely wine list.
We came here for a few drinks before dinner, but never should have left. Very relaxing and boutique bar, which puts some Melbourne venues to shame. Will be back!

We did not know what to expect when we booked this place- we were blown away! It takes you back to the 1800's- high ceilings, beautiful antique design and decorations. The bed was SUPER comfortable and the shower blew us away! Maurro cooked an amazing breakfast in the morning and it was super close to the town and our favourite pub- The Railway Hotel. Must stay here if you want to stay somewhere with some history!

Stumbled upon this bar while walking back to our accommodation. We were attracted to the jazz/swing music coming out of the bar and decided to check it out. It is a lovely venue with a beautiful courtyard. There were a group of musicians playing and I believe it was also someone's birthday. Nevertheless, it was open to the public and we really enjoyed our time there, soaking in the music and laughter!

This is a quiet bar but with loads of "noise". Very eclectic in both decor and offerings, ranging from tapas to tasty cakes and pastries. If you come to enjoy a coffee or a quiet glass of wine you will not be disappointed.

Tapas are a recent addition to what is on offer. Mauro told he was inspired by the tapas offered gratis or at low cost in southern Spain along with drinks. I can't report on this development as during my most recent stay at the Midland Hotel (which houses the Maurocco Bar) I was in the bar only in the late-morning-brunch time slot. Weekends from 10am the bar hosts several big groups of retiree-aged regulars who clearly find the atmosphere congenial for socialising and browsing the newspapers. They're well looked after, their beverage preferences remembered. Freshly made sweet and savoury snacks (e.g. sausage rolls) are available at that time of day.

This is a bar for adults selling mainly wines and spirits from a small bar inside.The innkeeper was perfect for the bar - a relaxed, friendly and helpful host. The decor is beautiful yet not overdone and we relaxed on the sofas in front of the open fire as it was a cool evening. Your host comes over and asks if you want drinks and brings them over to you followed by some complementary nibbles (bread, olives, olive oil and grated cheese). This is certainly the place to be if you want to get away from children and beer guzzlers for a quiet, relaxing evening in good company.

Visited this bar based on reviews and was not disappointed. Its like stepping into a trendy boutique in Melbourne with a bar and sweet collection attached. The attached boutique has some great finds and is worth a look on its own. The cafe / bar is well equipped with great coffee and a generous assortment of cakes and sweets etc.

A small group of friends would like a light lunch as a get together for Christmas. We are elderly and like to hear ourselves talk I have been told your bar is the perfect place. Are you open on Wedsdays ?
