A must do experience of the history of Greenbushes, plus some information relating to current activities within the town. Great attendance by a volunteer who was most helpful.

So happy that we visited Greenbushes and enjoyed the interactive displays of the environment, First Nations people, human involvement since settlement, mining, timber, agriculture and the community. All themes are set out as interactive walk trails and there is a replica underground tunnel. Staff/volunteers are very welcoming and knowledgeable in all things Greenbushes and locality. The most popular facility in town judging by the numbers present, both adults and kiddies.

We visited the discovery centre this morning and were pleasantly surprised by the mining and forestry displays. The centre is very pleasant and informative. Our children enjoyed completing the questionnaire. The history of greenbushes is certainly worth learning about.

Stopped in to see the museum while passing through. Super cool and interactive, great for older kids!

It is definitely worthwhile to stop in Greenbushes if you happen to travel between Perth and the south, or even holiday in the area.
The Discovery Centre/museum has more to offer than a brief look from outside may suggest (don't judge a book by its cover!). It has some mining, but also forestry logging exhibitions + a bit of local history, all of which I found interesting. My kids definitely enjoyed the interactive site of the exhibitions. You can follow this up by visiting the Open Pit Mine, one of the biggest lithium mines in Australia and perhaps in the world.
If you include a lunch, you can easily spent an interesting half day in Greenbushes.
One thing I almost forgot to mention - the Discovery Centre and the Open Pit Mine are free (not many things in WA are).

This gives you a great insight into what goes on in Greenbushes. We paid $5 to enter and spent about 1.5 hrs there. It has an unground mine section, timber mill area, history of the town and bush area. Do yourself a favour and go.

Plenty of information on the history of mining and the timber industry in the Greenbushes area. There is a display of what it is like to go down the decline of an underground mine with interactive displays of operating mining equipment and a simulated blast, worth the small price of admission just for this. Lots of displays of old equipment and household items from back in the day.

Last week we went to Green-bushes for an old car run, a very cold day, these lovely people opened up just for us (35 people and 15 cars), what a treat this is for the town, it was so entertaining, rooms full of very interesting stuff, even a pretend mine. It cost us $3- each, but it was worth every penny, a must see when you visit this town. This town was very small, but not any more. Well done to the town, you have done a great job. The first time we arrived here unplanned was a public holiday, so it was closed. Undettered, we returned the following day, after hearing great reports. This proved a wise decision indeed. About the first to arrive along with our friends, the entry fee of $5 each, proved great value for money...The Greenbushes mining lease is the longest held in W. A and has swung away from the original tin to the lucrative lithium mining..After a pleasant chat with the attendant volunteers we made our way around the simulated underground mine with many 'hands on' inter-active exhibits, mirroring the nearby Greenbushes mine..That led us on to another 'hands on' inter-active exhibit, this time involving the local forestry industry...After these active exhibits, we then strolled through other various and informative ones, including early life, indigenous and European, in the town and local area...... along with the local flora. This Discover Centre visit was one of the highlights in our recent coming trip to the area. It should definitely be on the agenda of visitors to the area and locals if they haven't visited there!
