Our Penguin Island visit has been reviewed separately and the entire coastline and bay area appeals. Its renowned as one of the State's most important marine protection areas with various islands classified as nature reserves and great diversity of marine dependent flora and fauna.

Exceptional time at Penguin Island

My 3 kids and I visited Penguin Island for the day and had a fanatic time in board the 1 hour Shoalwater Island Tour, which fortunately for us the Sea Lions were swimming, an event which is rarely seen.
Having lived in Darwin for majority of their lives, this was the first time my son and daughter had ever swam in the Ocean. A notion they were certainly nervous about, however, with the calm and crystal clear water surrounding Penguin Island, their fears were replaced with excitement and they were soon swimming and snorkelling as if they'd done it before.
Thank you for giving my children an experience, which otherwise they would have never had the opportunity to do so.

So much going on in one place.

Stunning scenery, awesome swimming, snorkelling, diving and walking. Penguins, dolphins, sea lions, pelicans and historic sites. You'll need more than one day....

What a fabulous day on the water with the crew from Wild dolphin Cruises.
Very professional and knowledgeable with safety being key.
Highly recommended to take this day trip.

I have a long history with this area as a kid in the 70's enjoying this sheltered reef area with its crystal clear waters and abundant wildlife. The great thing is that it hasn't changed due to good management and strict rules protecting this area.

I regularly drive past or take a walk in the area and have walked across to penguin island many times on low tides.

Unspoilt and still a thing of beauty.

Have a wonderful wildlife cruise experiencing the wonderful breezy cold wind and enjoy to see the lazy sleet sea lion, which are very big in size and always sleeping. They sleep for almost close to 24 hours a day, we we also very fortunate to see some of them woke up waking their tails and wondering around on the island sea 🌊 🦁 🌊 🦁

Lovely day

We love walking along here. Lovely beach, always nice and clean. Nice meeting people on our walks always friendly. We walk further in winter (now) cooler weather. Not so long in the summer when hot.

The best beach

Firstly Shoalwater is the best beach in our opinion. It's safe with hardly any waves in the morning, you can see dolphins here. It can get more choppy in the afternoon. The views are amazing, you can see Penguin and Seal Islands from here. You can go and visit both.

Such a beautiful place. The sunsets are divine and Moon rises too. Penguin Island is well worth visiting!

beautful bay with some islands

visited here as part of a trip to penguin island. Lots of bird life and could evn see a couple of dolphins from the shore. beautiful blue water, although it was a bit windy when we visited, lovely spot for a stroll.
