This is a hidden gem, winding its way through the hills and valleys of the hudson valley. Very reasonable prices ($40 to $80), with cart. Some streams, some small lakes and at each hole there is a stone monument to the conflicts that West Point Cadets participated in over the centuries.
Very scenic and challenging course... worth a side trip. Not easily walkable. A new clubhouse will soon be opened looking over the 18th hole. In my opinion, a don't miss if you are near the area. If you can get on base... take a tour of this bastian of the American Military... West Point US military Academy.

I am not permitted by the rules of Trip Advisor to compare different venues by name (which sort of defeats the purpose of Trip Advisor), but I can say that I have played both of the top-ranked public golf courses in New York (per Golf Digest) and neither of them comes close to the thrills provided by the course at West Point. This military course is now open to the public. It is very hilly, with many interesting holes. A new clubhouse is under construction and the temporary facility is pretty crappy, but the golf is great. This course is not on anyone's bucket list because Golf Digest has ignored it (Morons!). But is is a challenging and very scenic course-a diamond in the rough (no pun intended).

This course is absolutely beautiful!!! Better than many of the top courses in Monroe and Rockland County. Oh, and the beer selection is phenomenal, and the food is out of this world.

I have been driving across the country, playing the best courses along the way, as rated by Golf Digest. According to Golf Digest, the best public course in NY is Bethpage Black, followed by Atunyote at the Turning Stone Resort. West Point is not ranked at all. Well, I'm sorry Golf Digest, but you just do not have a clue what you are talking about. West Point is far, far, far superior to Atunyote. The West Point fairways are perfect; the greens are serious, the elevation changes are daunting, and the lay-out is exciting. Unfortunately, Golf Digest puts way too much emphasis on the clubhouse. The West Point Club house is a cozy, homey run-down temporary affair that provides great food at cheap prices, but do not expect table service. (They are building a new club house) The course might be too short for the professionals, but for ordinary folk, 6,000 yards from the tips on this course is plenty. I normally like 6300 yards, but played from 5800 at West Point and I did not reach any par 5 in two strokes. Who knows: you might find yourself playing with a general.

A truly pleasant experience - accessibility / reasonable greens fees / friendly staff / scenic, challenging golf course / inspiration of West Point. The entire golf course is well-maintained. Quiet and understated now -- once the clubhouse is completed, word of this gem will spread quickly. I'll be coming back frequently since it's easier to get on than my own county golf courses.

Great food. Best Burgers and beer around. Awsome prices too. You definitely geet your monies worth here at the West Point Golf Course

The tee marker inscriptions are worth the green fee all alone. This is a must for any veteran-golfer.
The elevation changes and the fall color show just add to the special character.
BTW, I did not shoot my age. More like my blood pressure. :)

Outstanding course! Love to play this course anytime I'm in the area. Very challenging course and well laid out. Staff is pleasant and just plain fun to play!

I was excited to play West Point Golf Course for the first time. I researched the course and they advertise that they have club rentals and an opportunity to upgrade to quality clubs. I had no issues with paying a little extra in order to ensure quality rentals.I called ahead of time and was assured that they had plenty of left handed clubs. When I arrived, the girl commented that she was new and didn't know where the left handed clubs were. She said that they didn't have premium clubs (even though they are advertised). She found a set but was missing half of the clubs. I had driven 1.5 hours to get there so I didn't have much choice to play with them. When I returned the clubs to the pro shop I had let the older gentleman behind the counter know that I was not happy with the set that was missing clubs. He made no offer to reduce the price at all.
I would only recommend the course if you have your own clubs and don't take a chance on the rentals.

This golf course is a true gem. Beautifully maintained, and incredibly scenic. It’s a tough course, but truly a great one. It is open to the public and not always crowded, which is great.
