Beautiful place. Very unfriendly staff. Guards are very rude and got very close to me when speaking to me.

Fantastic outdoor space

Stunning gardens, lovely stroll, and free!
I am not even sure what else to say… this once-private property is a masterwork of garden design. The walled garden was my favorite, but the entire area is full of beauty and views that don’t stop.

Inspiration at its finest

The grounds, created at a time when historic art, bubbling pools and gardens wove a haven for respite, have a stunning vista of the Hudson. Decorative objects, grottos, wandering trails, and views give pause for contemplation, conversation and candid shots. You just need a love of the outdoors to appreciate. Visitors ranged in ages from infants to their great grandparents. Everyone can find fulfillment of one (or more) of the senses.

At first daunted by the descent on the regal staircase to the Hudson viewpoint realizing the return uphill, but by utilizing the trails with more gradual slopes and by taking my time, I experienced not a single pant at the end. I even descended to the lowest trail. The temple of love is heavenly and - in September- swarming with the migrating monarch butterflies.

Riding a combination of the 1 subway and the BeeLine bus 2 from Manhattan to Tudor House (last stop) was quite straightforward taking almost 2 hours. I tried to return by the 6 beeline bus and the MetroNorth from Yonkers but the bus did not arrive as scheduled. Not wanting to wait another hour, I returned the same route. Both the beeline buses are steps from the entrance. The Greystone Manor stop on the MetroNorth line was closed the day I visited- check the schedule to ensure it has re-opened if you prefer that option.

I recommend bringing a book, a snack or a drink for an excuse to spend more time soaking up the beauty and to lose oneself in the homage to serenity.

A Must See
2021年8月
One of my new favorite places to visit. Free to get in and free parking. Many beautiful gardens to walk and see overlooking the Hudson River. I highly recommend this garden to all my friends. A nice day trip out of Brooklyn.

Urban Oasis
2021年7月
We felt like we discovered hidden treasure! Untermyer Gardens has, apparently, been around since the 1800s, but has fallen into disrepair and been restored several times through the years. This latest restoration was well worth the effort the Conservancy put into it. It is a unique, beautiful, interesting, unexpected oasis in the middle of Yonkers!
We particularly loved the Rock and Stream Garden below "The Temple of Love" and the urban character retained in the Gate House. There was a philharmonic concert at the Walled Garden so we didn't get to see the whole thing, but what a lovely place for a concert!
We cannot wait to go back to explore some more.

A few things to note:
- Only the upper part of the property is stroller/wheelchair friendly, unless you are prepared to use the bumpy, mulch-covered paths that take the long way through the property. I felt terrible for the man carrying a stroller back up the dozens of steps of "The Vista," as well as for his wife carrying their young chid!
-The property is built on a hill that goes down via steps or paths; I'd venture to say it's not ideal for those who have trouble with stairs or uneven surfaces.
- There is one restroom at the top. (There was a line for the men's room, but none for the women's - definitely a first!)
- It is free (yes, really!) to visit and there was no gift shop and no places to purchase water or food, so bring your own - blankets are allowed in several areas and there are picnic tables when you walk in.
- The parking lot is tiny, so bring a few quarters for metered street parking,

Beautiful garden oasis
2021年6月 • 独自旅游
Beautiful green spot in Yonkers, about half an hour outside the city. Pretty panoramic views, gorgeous expansive gardens, intriguing architecture that makes you think maybe this is a little Greek oasis. Walking paths. Very peaceful for the most part (aside from the typical selfie taking groups). Picnic areas. Free entry! I’m going to stop by again when traveling outside NYC.

Nice and free garden

We love gardens and were pleased to learn of this place. It has a beautiful view of the Hudson river and the NJ Palisades. It is meticulous, with few weeds. The Persian influence is very unique.

Even on a dark winter day, the grounds are impressive. I actually enjoyed seeing some left over snow from the recent storms. It made for some excellent black and white photos!

Beautiful place, but closed early without warning.
2020年8月
This place is beautiful but we did not get any time to enjoy it. We requested a ticket for the 3:30 - 4 pm time slot. The website said they closed at 6pm, as did our ticket. We arrived just before 4pm and were told the gardens were closing at 4:30p.m. We drove over an hour to get to these gardens and would have requested an earlier timed entry had we known they were closing early for a ticketed outdoor concert. This was a planned early closing so there's really no excuse for not letting people know. The gardens should not have even offer a time entry at 4pm if they were closing at 4:30p.m.. Once we got inside the gardens were crowded with people doing photoshoots so it was hard to navigate without getting in the way. The views inside the garden were beautiful but we were only inside a few minutes when the staff started rushing everyone to head towards the exits. If you come here maybe try a weekday or a morning instead. If you're coming from a distance definitely call ahead to make sure the hours on your ticket are accurate.

We ended up walking the Croton Aqueduct Trail instead as there was an entrance nearby. It's not as pretty but was accessible and a very pleasant, long walk.
