Beautiful property with miles of walking paths and a grand old summer home of a textile giant. It is located on the Blue Ridge Parkway in NC. It is operated by the National Park Service. I arrived later in the day and missed all the tours of the building. Really wish I would have been able to see more of the building not only the front entryway and 2 or 3 gift stores. There are magnificent views from the front porch.

Beautiful mountain views, rivers and lakes. Enjoyed the cool mountain temperatures while at home the temperatures were close to 100 degrees. The peace and quiet was awesome. Really enjoyed this trip.

Not open every day but lots of walking weather depending Blue Ridge highway beautiful to travel nice scenery

We were driving down the Blue Ridge Parkway and made a stop here. There are many hiking trails (although it was so windy and 40 degrees) we opted for a tour of Cove Manor. Tours are hourly and we got to see the home (2nd floor). Unfortunately, the furniture was donated by his widow. The views are wonderful and it was most interesting. Downstairs, is a small crafts area managed by the Guild. It was a lovely place to see.

We were disappointed that the home wasn't open for a tour during the week. Tours are on Friday-Sunday. Grounds and home look to be in excellent condition.

The house was magnificent. Unfortunately we were there 3 weeks before tours of the upstairs were to start...but I'd go back just to see it. The arts and craft center on the first floor had a nice selection of local items. I enjoyed reading about the family and walking some of the trails that were created by Moses Cone. The view from the front porch is spectacular. I could have sat there all day enjoying the peace and tranquility.

This was our second trip to the Moses Cone Memorial Park. It won't be our last. There are so many beautiful trails there. We have done two. We also were there in time to take a tour of the upstairs of the Cone Home. The park ranger shared a lot of great information. I love this area..

The day we visited was to go to the house and the craft center. They have such an array of local crafts and local artisans willing to talk about the items they are working on at the moment. Very popular stop along the Blue Ridge because of the hiking possibilities so parking is at a premium. The sales clerks were very friendly and helpful.

Great hike on even path - some in pasture land and then uphill under a gorgeous tree canapy. Not too many people and the views from the fire tower were amazing.

My husband and I are planning a trip to Blowing Rock the first week of June. We are both nearing 80 with physical disabilities. We planned to do the carriage ride but read not recommended for people with back issues. That rules us out because we have both had back surgeries. We are also unable to do the hiking. Are there any options for us to be able to see the lake and mansion? Thanks for any advice!

The Moses Cone Manor house (Flat Top Manor) hosts the Southern Highland Guild Craft Center. You can view more info at southernhighlandguild website.
Tours of the Flat Top Manor are also available at certain dates.

You really could make it an hour trip and just view the manor house and grounds, or spend the whole day exploring on foot, horseback, or carriage rides! Bass Lake is also a big attraction on the grounds.

I wouldn't assume that use of a metal detector would be OK. Probably best to call 1st.

The quickest is the Deer Park trail. If you take the Maze toward the Apple Barn and then turn left onto Watkin Road you can also get there, but it is much further.

I suggest you contact them directly. I know that in our area of North Carolina there are times in the winter when the Blue Ridge Parkway is closed even though local roads may be open and safe. Sorry but I just don't know the answer to your question.

I believe the horseback riding was around $300 but only had an all day package which included lunch, photos, and something else. We didn't have that much time to put into it.

There are two pull-offs near the entrance to Bass Lake on Blowing Rock Highway, we've seen horse trailers parked there.
There is a Stable where you can rent horses near there as well.
We didn't see anywhere for horse trailers at the actual Moses Cone Manor, but I'm sure the website has info on it.
