This garden has potential, but needs more care. Most of the plants were labelled, which is a plus. Many were just starting to bud out -- probably will be more beautiful in a few more weeks.

I guess "native" is the operative word here! I think Daniel Boone was the last one to tend this garden!

I should have known when we pulled into the parking lot today (Sunday) at 1 pm and there were no other cars in the parking lot that this was not going to be great and I was right. It wasn't. There is plenty of paved parking, close to the entrance gate. There is a sign at the gate that says $2 admission. They should have paid me $2 to make up for the 30 minutes we spent there. It looks like this was a grand garden at some point a long time ago. Now it's just a jungle of weeds. I'm not sure if this garden is maintained by the city of Boone or by volunteers, but it ain't a-workin'!
Seriously though, this garden has so much potential. It's in a great location with great parking. It is set up nicely with steps leading down into a nice garden area with a few paths leading off to a fern garden with a pond, a Boone house and a Pickin' Porch. This COULD be a very nice native plant garden if the just kept the place weeded. We could not tell the plants from the weeds and yes, sometimes native plants look like weeds, but this was a total overgrowth of weeds in most of the gardens. There were a couple of gardens that were mostly weeded. The plants need to be labeled better too. There were some signs where there were nothing but weeds and many plants not labeled at all. It was a shame to see this overgrowth of weeds. It has been very hot this summer, so maybe that has led to people no wanting to be out in 90-degree heat to weed, but if that is the case, there needs to be an alternative, like weed barriers or something. I think now that the weeds have gotten so far out of hand, there is almost no way to eliminate them, except to kill everything and start over. Whoever is in charge of this garden needs to get the weed issue fixed before it's too late.

We stopped here on a spur of the moment decision. It was a beautiful garden with trails to walk! The flowers were so beautiful!

Pretty, peaceful gardens. A great place to get away from the hectic pace of Boone and enjoy a lunch break or afternoon with family.

Beautiful area in Boone. Small laid out gardens. Definately seasonal as flowers and other blooming plants depend on the time of year you go. Quiet, peaceful, some areas to sit. Paths wind throughout different technologies, some building structures that are dated to certain periods of time. Was not much to see this month. There is signage that describes what plants are as well as trees and shrubs. No charge but a donation is requested.

This was a sweet little spot. It is donations only, and wasn't manned when we were there. It's all volunteer run, so I was happy to drop my cash in the little slot. It was so pretty and a cardinal flew by us several times! (Cardinals are my family's favorite bird.)

This could be a really nice place, it is not far from the town main st but is a peaceful island of tranquility. It is maintained by volunteers and it would appear they need some more volunteers. Some beds were well maintained with very good signage describing the plants, but most were overgrown with weeds and badly needed some TLC. Don't miss the area down and to the left which is a nice little trail area through ferns and a rhododendron forest. Really nice, but could be better.

Daniel Boone Gardens was a big disappointment today. Not much blooming at all. You would think there would be lot’s to see in May but there wasn’t. After walking around a half hour we left. Only one other car in the parking lot.

Oh, this place was pretty with all the different types of flowers blooming. Nice paths take you around the gardens. Most plants have a name plate for it. I would recommend that you go here in the spring like we did. Not sure if much would be blooming later in the yr.
