Elk Creek Rainbow

My friend and I who are amateur fly fishermen spent a half-day with Tyler of Due South Outfitters on Elk Creek. Awesome catch-release experience with about a dozen hooked rainbow of which a few were more than 15 inches. Gorgeous setting.

Amazing Day w/ Due South

Ask to be guided by Tyler! Our Due South half day trip was exceptionally amazing!! This kid knew where to go, how to fish, and certainly how to help a novice angler learn the tricks of casting, mending, reading the water, AND catching a mess of rainbow trout!!! We had an outstanding day on the river!!!

Beautiful float on the Watauga

Drayton & Travis made our float on the Watagua an outstanding experience! Due South's equipment and service is first class. In our group, we had a never before fly fisherman, a beginner and an experienced Dry fly small stream guy, but unfamiliar with nymphing large rivers. The Guides coached each, based upon their skills to successful fish and fun filled day. We'll fish them again!

Great experience

Patient guide, Max, took my husband and I on a full day float. We caught a lot of fish and had a great time. Definitely recommend Due South and will return ourselves.

One of the most knowledgeable fly fishing guides in NC

I spend more money than my wife would likely approve of on fly fishing guides across the country; funny that the most knowledgeable guide was right in my backyard just 3 hours from where I live in Raleigh. The top 3 reasons I would sugges Patrick from Due South: 1. he treated us like family from the get-go. 2. He may as well have been a biologist based on how much he knew about the water we were fishing. 3. Each fish we caught was a celebration no matter the size, although he probably sees more fish pulled out of those waters than we would even know. We caught fish from 10 inches all the way to 20+ inches, and each one was a special moment. I would highly recommend these cats!

Float trip with DueSouth

I booked a float trip with DueSouth and it was a fantastic experience. I am a full time inshore fishing guide on Anna Maria Florida and have been fishing my whole life. I know what it takes to put together a good charter. Patrick exceeded every expectation I had for this trip. His knowledge of the local waters was vast. His fly shop is small but is slam packed with everything anyone would need to outfit themselves. I can honestly say that the trip Patrick took me on was easily the best experience I’ve had on a fishing trip.

I’ve fished on my own with minor success for several years in Ashe County. Due South was recommended by a friend. I had thought of this for a while and booked an all day trip today. Caught 25-30 fish (trout) which is at least 24 more than I would usually catch. Great day with Travis and Sam. Definitely worth the money. Hopefully I learned enough to be better on my own-but if not-I will be back for more. No regrets whatsoever.

Awesome fishing trip!

Wonderful half day wading trip with Nick from Due South. He was very knowledgable about all the questions I asked (which were many being a newbie to fly fishing), plus knew some awesome spots along Elk Creek. I think we ended up catching 16 browns and rainbows, one being 17-18" inches.

If you want a guided fishing trip, go thru these guys! They were great! Thanks for a perfect day of fishing!

Amazing flyfishing for trout

My daughter and son-in-law booked two days of Fall fishing with Patrick Sessoms as a deferred birthday present for me, and it was of the best gifts ever! I have been fishing for 66 years, fly fishing for 42 years, and have fished for trout in most of the lower 48 in my former position with Trout Unlimited. This was one of the best trips ever!

Since my daughter doesn’t get to fish as much, Patrick put her in the front seat and very thoroughly and calmly helped her upgrade her skills throughout the first day, I loved hearing her joyful noises as he netted most of the 30 fish she struck. He had a complete understanding of the Watauga tailwater and the trout, brown and rainbow, as the spawning season was getting ready to start. I was impressed with his ability to deal with unusually high releases from Wilbur Dam that might have frustrated a less experienced guide.

The second day my son-in-law shared the boat, and we landed 40+ fish up to 19” thanks to Patrick’s boathandling and laser attention to adjusting our nymph rigging. The man has amazing eyesight!

I was very pleased to learn that Patrick and Meredith have qualified Due South for TU’s Businesses & Guides program, as I helped develop that concept 25 years ago to build great relationships between professional anglers and conservationists. It seems to be working here in the Southeast.

Finally, you will not find a nicer, more even-tempered guide to share a day on the river. Do yourself a favor and call Patrick or Meredith Sessoms to arrange a great day of trout fishing.
