This is a tiny museum nestled in an old jail. The staff is incredible and their tours a lot of fun. Be sure to see the fluorescent rock room. Definitely a must do in Franklin. The only downsides are a really narrow staircase (understandable given the prior use of the building) and the limited opening hours. Highly recommend you check the hours they are open when planning your trip. This is not by any stretch of the imagination a slick place, but very interesting.

If you are in Franklin, have any interest in gems/minerals/fossils/history, this is definitely worth a visit. just check their hours as they vary. one of the better gem and mineral collections that I have seen.

A great place to visit, and it's free! They have amazing displays of rocks, minerals, native American artifacts, as well as fossils from all over the world. Plenty of items to purchase if desired, but no staff pressure to do so. This is definitely a place to visit, kids will enjoy.

The staff at Franklin Gem and Mineral Museum were incredibly informative and outgoing. They actively engaged with each person who entered and seemed to enjoy answering the questions that visitors had about the areas gem history. Make sure you check out the black light room they have set up, as well as the jail upstairs.

The building itself is great - it's an old jail. They have left several areas as they were - including a jail cell. Pretty cool.
The specimens they have are stunning - wonderful minerals and gems from all over the world. They also have a great many fossils and native artifacts. The staff was friendly and helpful. We enjoyed going through the place and even purchased some nice rocks to cab and some gem stones to facet. Great place!

A great little museum. Filled with many interesting gems and fossils. There is something there for all ages.

So much fun. Great labels. Went few summer ago. Free. Great for all ages. Friendly staff. Welcoming. Rocks and minerals from all over the Earth..., also suggest nearby Ruby city down the block- also free.
