Lovely nature. Ranger station is good, especially for kids and has clean restrooms. The park is great -- well marked trails, very green. My favorite park was seeing the lake. Very tranquil.

Just a 30 miles drive from Charlotte and only a few minutes from exit 13 on I85 one can approach the free Linwood Rd. Access to Crowders Mountain State Park. Plenty of free parking and a little hut with maps and restrooms. We took the Backside Trail to the overlook on top of the towers of Crowders Mountain. It’s an easy 0.8 miles hike with steep stairs at the end. Marvelous views over the woods towards Charlotte. We’d hike it again when in the area.

We were visiting Charlotte and wanted to get out and hike so we made the drive to Crowders Mountain. It was a very nice relaxing hike. You have to so some hiking uphill but nothing was hard. There is a very nice view form the top. It was not crowded and was free

We were traveling back home to SC from the Charlotte airport and saw this turnover off the interstate. It was a nice surprise. First of all, it is free! We have a few free state parks in SC, but the nice ones all charge. It had a very nice visitor center, and the bathrooms were nice and clean. We walked the short loop trail around the lake, and it was well-kept up and easy. I hope to come back when I can walk some of the more strenuous, lookout hikes.

This is a beautiful spot to hike. There are 2 trails with differing levels of difficulty. Both are doable even for seniors in good health. It is a nice challenge. Pretty views.

The view from the top of the mountain is stunning. The walk to the top is not that long but it's very steep. Hiking stick would be helpful for those with bad knees. It's hard on young children. There is a chance you'll carry those below 4 years old due to the steep slope

My sister visited Charlotte from
PA and wanted to get in a daily walk. We hiked the 4 mile Pinnacle trail which was a moderate hike with some lovely views from the top. The trail was covered with leaves as we went the week of Thanksgiving & you are climbing some rocks at the top to get to the overlook so I would be extra careful if it recently rained. This was a nice pre-lunch workout! Plenty of parking & not hard to find.

Trails are well maintained, park rangers amd staff are very friendly and efficient. We hiked the 4 mile round trip up to the overlook with a toddler in a backpack carrier and a 4 year old that hikes in her own. Bring plenty of water and snacks. No restrooms past the trailhead. Use common sense and you'll be fine.

Stopped here for an afternoon hike while traveling and enjoyed the park. The trails are well marked and cleared. The views weren't as great as described. It's basically a walk in the woods but sometimes that's what you need! Good place to take your kids or your dogs to get some fresh air.

Hiked up the Pinnacle trail at Crowders. It was our first time to the park. Hike was a 4 mile roundtrip moderate to strenuous as you reached the top.

Yes, this trail is fine for you. My husband is 53 and I’m 48, we are in great shape. Good trail shoes and a walking stick are recommended.

If you are just going for a hike...there's no need to reserve anything. I did see some families that we heading to the campsite and yes...you have to reserve anything area. I didn't stay over...only did the 2 hr trail.

I’m not sure I can answer your question. Crowders is, well, crowded. If you’re looking for privacy, you’re not going to get it here. It’s pretty active year round with hikers. You likely won’t go more than 5 to 20 minutes, depending on time of day and trail, without seeing someone.
I’ve seen rangers on the trail but they aren’t beri invasive. Friendly but not encroaching.
I’ve never camped at Crowders so if you’re asking about that I can’t comment.

There are several options in Kings Mountain NC. If you stay on 74 business there is a food lion, hardees, mcdonalds, further down are some sub shops and a pizza hut. If you are going south 85 from Charlotte, on cox rd Gastonia there is a harris teeter. They have a pretty good sub and there is a showmars at the 321 exit. Showmars is not really a sub place but it has good food at reasonable prices.

I just went hiking there today carrying my 5 month old, it was definitely tiring! We did the 2 mile (one way) hike to the highest peak, and it does say strenuous. I was very worn out, but rested at the top and made it back down fine. There are other trails that are not such an incline, that I didn't go on, but I'm sure they would have been easier!

What is the best hiking trail to take with a 4 year old? Biggest concern is to have easy footing, especially on the way down.
