The view from the top of the mountain is stunning. The walk to the top is not that long but it's very steep. Hiking stick would be helpful for those with bad knees. It's hard on young children. There is a chance you'll carry those below 4 years old due to the steep slope

My sister visited Charlotte from
PA and wanted to get in a daily walk. We hiked the 4 mile Pinnacle trail which was a moderate hike with some lovely views from the top. The trail was covered with leaves as we went the week of Thanksgiving & you are climbing some rocks at the top to get to the overlook so I would be extra careful if it recently rained. This was a nice pre-lunch workout! Plenty of parking & not hard to find.

Trails are well maintained, park rangers amd staff are very friendly and efficient. We hiked the 4 mile round trip up to the overlook with a toddler in a backpack carrier and a 4 year old that hikes in her own. Bring plenty of water and snacks. No restrooms past the trailhead. Use common sense and you'll be fine.

Stopped here for an afternoon hike while traveling and enjoyed the park. The trails are well marked and cleared. The views weren't as great as described. It's basically a walk in the woods but sometimes that's what you need! Good place to take your kids or your dogs to get some fresh air.

Hiked up the Pinnacle trail at Crowders. It was our first time to the park. Hike was a 4 mile roundtrip moderate to strenuous as you reached the top.

This is a must stop for your Outdoor Adventure!!! The joint is clean and tons of yoga pants all over the place.

My parents and I traveled to Kings Mountain for an overnight trip in July. I took my parents to the new Two Kings Casino, very convenient off I-85 at the Dixon School Road exit. This beautiful State Park is not far from the casino, nor from the Comfort Inn where we stayed. I wanted to explore the park while my parents played the slot machines.
I chose to walk the Pinnacle Trail up to Kings Pinnacle, where the views are spectacular. I started off on the trail walking alone. I caught up with an older gentleman and we began to talk to one another along the trail. There was a group of around 15-20 talkative teenagers who were ahead of us. I believe in safety in numbers as in keeping the bears away!
This trail is 4 miles, as in 2 miles up the mountain, then 2 hours down the mountain. It took me every bit of 2 hours to hike the trail. On the day I went hiking, it was a hot July day. I was glad that I was in the shade of the trees along the way, however, my t-shirt was soaking wet by the time I finished the hike.
There is a very nice visitor's center, as well as clean restrooms. Campsites are also available.
I hope to visit the park again as I didn't have time to see the lake.

We had a great hike at Crowders Mountain State Park. Went during a weekday so it was not crowded. There are 2 hikes, a 4 mile and 6 mile and the 6 mile took us approximately 3 hours. Lots of rocks to

This state park has lots to offer for anyone who enjoys the outdoors. My wife and I visited on the weekend, the park and the weather were both super. A picnic and a short walk today, no hike to the mountain top today. The park offers two entrances. One entrance is off Linwood Rd, which offers trails closest to the mountain and mountain top. The other is the Sparrow Springs entrance, which has access to the visitor's center, picnic areas, a small lake, and more hiking trails. We like the Sparrow Springs entrance due to the picnic areas. The tables are metal and in good shape. Some tables are under a shelter, others are spaced out in wooded areas. The trail around the lake is a nice walk. The trails are natural but well defined. The trail from the Sparrow Springs entrance to the top of the mountain is a moderate hike in my opinion and well worth the time. Dogs are allowed on a leash. The leash with a maximum 6ft reach. Visiting during a weekday has small crowds but the weekends can be steady to heavy with visitors. Parking is paved and ample enough. A worthwhile stop for whatever outdoor activity you enjoy.

My wife and I visited on a Friday looking for a casual stroll through the woods. We found an easy trail heading out toward a little lake. The lake area was shut down due to the pandemic, but the scenery was quiet and peaceful, perfect for our casual jaunt. A great, free way to pass an afternoon.

Yes, this trail is fine for you. My husband is 53 and I’m 48, we are in great shape. Good trail shoes and a walking stick are recommended.

If you are just going for a hike...there's no need to reserve anything. I did see some families that we heading to the campsite and yes...you have to reserve anything area. I didn't stay over...only did the 2 hr trail.

I’m not sure I can answer your question. Crowders is, well, crowded. If you’re looking for privacy, you’re not going to get it here. It’s pretty active year round with hikers. You likely won’t go more than 5 to 20 minutes, depending on time of day and trail, without seeing someone.
I’ve seen rangers on the trail but they aren’t beri invasive. Friendly but not encroaching.
I’ve never camped at Crowders so if you’re asking about that I can’t comment.

There are several options in Kings Mountain NC. If you stay on 74 business there is a food lion, hardees, mcdonalds, further down are some sub shops and a pizza hut. If you are going south 85 from Charlotte, on cox rd Gastonia there is a harris teeter. They have a pretty good sub and there is a showmars at the 321 exit. Showmars is not really a sub place but it has good food at reasonable prices.
Is there somewhere i can charge my phone while staying at the campsite

I just went hiking there today carrying my 5 month old, it was definitely tiring! We did the 2 mile (one way) hike to the highest peak, and it does say strenuous. I was very worn out, but rested at the top and made it back down fine. There are other trails that are not such an incline, that I didn't go on, but I'm sure they would have been easier!

What is the best hiking trail to take with a 4 year old? Biggest concern is to have easy footing, especially on the way down.

the lower trails, not as steep, would be easier to walk.
