We played during the week and the pace of play was slow. Our biggest issue was there was a high school tournament behind us. The pro shop didn’t warn us of the slow play nor the tournament (or cart path only on every hole)! Parents & spectators were walking in front and near us the whole time.
This isn’t acceptable. Also there was a league going off #10 right as we made the turn. If they offered a better twilight rate they could spread out play. No rangers, no water on the course. Very average course. Could be much better. Three out of five is generous. Bar staff was friendly.

This is a great course for the money, much better than most public/munis I've played. It is well kept with nice greens, fast and more contoured for a public course but not unreasonable. The deep rough isn't for the faint of heart in Summer/Fall. The only downside is the course does not drain as well as some after extended rain. This winter it was muddy more often than not.
The course and facilities were completely redone in 2016, so any reviews from before then are no longer representative.

I would like to start out by saying I love the staff! About the only thing I love about this course. It floods after a typical summer time shower. The course is very Sandy in the fairways and has clay in some spots just off into the rough. The most ridiculous part of this course is that it's $41 to WALK 18 holes on a weekend. This course is not the most primed course in NC like they make it out to be. Do not waste your time and money playing golf at this course. I would have gave it a 1 star if I didn't know some of the employees. Absolutely ridiculous.

I played on your course last July and found your course to be in excellent condition. The one worm in the apple was there was no GPS set up for my device. This is all well and good in that the carts provide somewhat accurate information as to the distance to the hole, etc. I played the couse again on October 24, 2019 a few months later and the course was still in excellent condition but there was a problem; it was cart path only and my GPS device was not in sync with the course lay-out. We would have to sit in our carts and read the screen as to what the yardage was to the hole, grab a handfull of clubs and schlep down to our balls and try and make and educated guess as to the distance to the pin. The yardage markings on the cart path were totally innacurate as well. A friend that was playing sain he checked the day before and it was 90 Degrees the day after a hard rain yet 2 days after the rain it was cart path only! There are no markings or signage to indicate where the 5th hole was in relationship to the 4th hole. We had to ask someone. A young oriental lady even asked me when I was making the turn where it was. There is no obvious signage as to where the 1st hole or the 10th hole is which also made this a guessing game. I am sure this is all well and good for your everyday members but a bit confounding for a group of visitors. Come on! Get your information right. Put some signs up. Get a GPS system that will work for any device, not just your golf course. You are the ONLY golf course I have played that is like this. Made for a very long and frustrating day.

To start off I very much enjoyed this course years ago. I was told by friends that it had been remodeled and purchased by new management. I was very excited to play, as the weather that day was beautiful.
I recently got back in to golfing after a 5 year break. Initial thoughts of the golf course where great. But here’s where it started going downhill. We rode up to the first tee and we where greeted nicely by an employee, that told us we are playing in with a single (completely understandable at this point). As we progressed through the course, we realized he was much, much better than us and asked him to play through. He chose not to and continue the entire front 9 pushing ahead and standing in the middle of the fairways. This made us very nervous to hit the ball.
Here’s where it gets better. As we approach the back 9, he tells us that he has a friend that is meeting up with him. The friend brought a new born, in a stroller, to the golf course. Again, we urged them to play through. They declined and the same thing that happened on the front 9, happened again on the back 9. Pushing forward, mind you, with a new born child, standing in the middle of the fairways... this was the worst round of golf I have ever played.
To end it all, we decided to go to the clubhouse and try and speak with someone about this. We where told he’s a club member and they’ll “chat with him”. I hope someone reads this and pays a little more attention to what’s happening on their course.

MGC is getting into just excellent conditions. They had some issues last year with a brand new course and too much play, weather, etc and had to shut down last summer. They will not be shutting down this summer. I would compare the conditions of this course right now to some good country clubs in the area. Facilities are really good too.
My big complaint that hasn't improved is pace of play. I'm not sure if it is members or what, but play is just still wayyyyy too long at most times. You really need to go off EARLY am or late in the afternoon to have descent pace of play.
With that said, they are putting a lot of work to get this course into tip top shape, and it is working.

This is a OK golf course that when they open had good greens buy since then the course is getting beat up and some of the fairways are terrible...People walk this course which is ridiculous. The members dont want to pay the cart fee so they walk and look for there balls and hit from the wrong tees and not a Ranger in sight.. Approaching a 5 hour round is ridiculous, They would have been better off without the memberships because the members grab the tee times and walk so not even a cart fee and the slow play is keeping others away

This course is a joke! As of Sunday May 13th, this course is in horrible conditions. The greens are in horrible condition. They are extremely hard and is like putting on pie crust. You can actually hear your ball roll. The fairways are dried out and are a in worse shape that the greens. I have pictures of this hot mess to share if needed. We were charged $46 to play after 3PM on a Sunday. The pro shop attendant didn't mention the horrible shape of the course. Their website touts it as the best coarse in the State of NC. SO why are the conditions so bad. Oh and by the way, the grill and snack bar closed at 3:30 with no one letting us know they were going to do it. It was a high of 91 degrees and their were no water coolers on the coarse! I am still amazed how a place can be this bad. I thought that not too long ago this coarse was renovated. And if anyone puts a positive review anywhere near the date of May 13 2018, it has to be an employee. Go see for yourself how bad of shape this course is. And if the management wants an even more detailed response from me, please let me know. I think I am actually being nice. It was a scam. I see that they have memberships. Please members, raise hell about this course. You have every right too!

Unfortunately this is not going to be a review of my latest Golf Game because I have upcoming hip surgery and any golf is off the table till sometime late spring or early summer.
The Course was closed for an extended period of time while undergoing just about a complete remake. My wife and I had brunch at the new restaurant in the club house last Sunday and had a chance to see the transformation.
I've played the old course a couple of times over the years but granted the last time was probably 8 or 9 years ago due to work schedule. I remember one hole in particular that parallel Wilson Ave. If there is a hazard or distraction, then my ball in immediately drawn to it. Bounced more than one ball off of the pavement and while I never hit an oncoming vehicle, came close once.
New course is beautiful or at least the part that I could see from the car. Pro Shop which is on the upper level of the Club House next to the restaurant looks to be well stocked and when I do stop, will be a definite stopping point
From what I could see, what was an average worn out Course has been rejuvenated with a fresh approach.
Will definitely make a point to give it a try when I am able.

Played this course back several years ago and not all that impressed with it. Was just a typical city owned muny course that you wouldn't want to play but once. Then they renovated everything this last year. The new club house is very nice and not the typical paint and carpet remodel you see so much of the time. Course has been tweeked out and is a nice track to play. The folks that took on this project have done themselves and Mooresville proud. Would recommend this course to anyone looking to play a nice course that will test you but not choke the life out of you.
