My dad and I drove nearly 4 hours, round trip, to Mount Airy to see see the new Chang and Eng Museum. I double-checked the website to be sure it was open on Saturdays. Yep, from 9 - 5, it read. We rolled in at 11 a.m. to discover the door locked. When I called the phone number listed on the door, I got a recording.
We went across the street to the Andy Griffith Museum (the two are affiliated) and were told that the museum was short-staffed and that no one would be coming in today.
We felt like the Griswolds rolling up to Wally World only to learn the park was closed for repairs.
We saw signs for a Visitor Center and drove there to see if anyone knew the deal. The two people working there couldn't have been nicer. One of them -- Mike, a.k.a. Slim -- said he was disappointed FOR us and asked us to sit tight while he made a phone call. Five minutes later, he told us the museum was now open.
We went, and loved it -- just as we loved the Andy Griffith Museum. But it would've been a wasted day trip if Slim hadn't taken it upon himself to help. He also made a great recommendation for lunch -- The Derby, a meat-and-three spot that's been run by the same family for three generations.
Thank you, Slim, for salvaging our day. We would've returned home very disappointed, if not for you.

We stopped here to find out what to do in Mt Airy. The woman working was very helpful. There was literature available and information about the town. Worth stopping to get ideas on how to spend your day.

The people in the Visitors Center were very helpful and offered lots of great suggestions about place to see in the area. They were friendly and interested in me and my plans for the day. There is a lot of literature to help you determine what you'd like to do in the area. Note: The picture is not the Visitor's Center.

Our first stop in Mount Airy was the visitor center. The ladies working there were very friendly and knowledgeable. They got us on the list for a squad car tour. They directed us to some other sites we may be interested in.

A nice place to start your tour of Mt Airy. The nice lady will give you pointers on where to start and what to see. This makes it easy to find the Mayberry sites.

They are very nice and had lots of information about the town. Also had maps of the town and explained where everything was. Its a must to get the map and info on tours.

We stopped here first and got an excellent overview of the area and a map of the main attractions, which made the trip easier to navigate. We enjoyed a very nice visit with the lady- she was so personable and welcoming.

Yes they are open 7 Days a week and open on Sunday from 1:30pm-4:30pm and also open Monday-Friday 9am-5pm and Saturday 11am-4pm
The Mount Airy Visitors Center is also open 7 days as week from Monday-Friday 8:30-5:30pm, Saturday 10am-5pm and Sunday 1pm-4pm let me know if you need anything else!

The Mount Airy Visitors Center is open 7 Days a Week and so is the Andy Griffith Museum the information printed above is incorrect I manage and operate the Mount Airy Visitors Center. Yes they are open 7 Days a week and open on Sunday from 1:30pm-4:30pm and also open Monday-Friday 9am-5pm and Saturday 11am-4pm
The Mount Airy Visitors Center is also open 7 days as week from Monday-Friday 8:30-5:30pm, Saturday 10am-5pm and Sunday 1pm-4pm let me know if you need anything else!

We have special Bus Parking now on Main Street in front of the Mayberry Toy Company that is designated for a bus. The address is 259 North Main Street and you can park right in front of our new downtown park with gazebo that just opened this year next to the Mayberry Toy Company.
If its during the busy summer months then please contact the owner Paul Stroupe and let him know you all are coming and he can block a space for you at:

Thank you for your interests in Bus Tours and parking in Mount Airy we have several bus tour parking locations and now have one on Main Street in front of Mayberry Toy Company and the information for this place- 259 North Main Street, Mount Airy, NC 27030
(336) 755-3727 (You may want to call and let them know you are coming but there is a designated spot in front of this location for Bus Parking)
We also have parking avaliable beside the Mount Airy Museum of Regional HIstory and this is on Virginia Street across from the Old North State Winery in Mount Airy there are 2 spots for Bus Parking and again if you let us know when you are coming we can assist and make sure you have a spot reserved. Also behind the Snappy Lunch is a large parking lot with several other parking spaces and this located accross from Moodys Funeral Home on Dixie Street directly behind the Snappy Lunch in the public parking lot. We also have Bus Parking at many of the places you stop you can pull up front and let people off on Main street and at the Andy Griffith Museum there is a parking lot as well for the buses.
