This is a beautiful river walk with many different trails. Some paved, some gravel, and some boardwalk decking. It seemed to be well maintained and we walked at least 2 miles each day and never really walked in the same area twice. Good Job Murphy on this little gem.

Would recommend this gravel trail for its scenery and historical significance. Easy walking for the most part with some “primitive” off shoots. I’m not sure what that was all about but did not have time to explore on this trip. Audio tour is no longer available but I made an inquiry to the city government website. Would have been better if it was available.

What a unique way to see the River Walk! We used Murphy Kayak rentals for a half day kayak experience. There was no current and quite the peaceful ride. After returning the kayaks, we then parked at the baseball fields to walk on the Valley River portion of the River Walk. It was easy, paved, and enjoyed a veteran memorial as well as about 30 ducks.

Relaxing walk that you can adjust the length and duration of.
We parked at the rail depot and went in and out from that site. There are probably 4 other access points going through town where it seemed more of the locals hopped onto the trail. Take the time to scan the bar codes on the trail markers… they did and great job of providing some history and also letting you know what you were looking at. The majority of the trail was shaded which was a blessing on this hot August day. Enjoy…

First off, the parking lot was hard to find as it's not marked. (It's by the high school football field.) And then we went in the heat of the day so the unshaded part were broiling. But, I would definitely walk this path often if we lived here.

we enjoyed walking along the water with our new puppy and talking with a few people. would recommend this to anyone wanting to walk, run or ride bikes

It is a great place for a stroll, jog or to walk your dogs! It is very scenic, and an easy trail. There are places to sit and enjoy the view also.

Our time in North Carolina included a lot of rain so we didn't walk the trails we had planned on doing. Instead we walked two different portions of this city trail and enjoyed ourselves a lot. There is a lovely walk along the river and one more primitive. Easy for anyone.

Walk along the river and then up into downtown Murphy. Stop, get lunch or a beer, and then walk back to your car. Very pleasant.

I was expecting a concrete sidewalk along a river. But instead it was a beautiful wooded path with delightful spots to stop and read about history and view the gorgeous scenery. Highly recommended!

Dogs are definitely allowed!
I've seen a bunch of dogs running alongside joggers and bicyclists or walking with their humans.

Yes. The river walk is made up of asphalt and gravel trails, very flat and easy for adults and children to ride.

There are kind of two sections , one is a park with ball fields and tennis courts on one side and tree lined paved walk by the river . There is also another part that takes you thru a wooded area that is gravel and walks in an almost wetland type area . Both parts are flat and an easy walk .

No waterfalls on the River Walk. Go out to Fire's Creek for the Water Fall. It's all natural there. Lots of trails and a beautiful creek that runs through it. Remember that *Fire's Creek is a bear sanctuary* so be alert. Also, anywhere in North Carolina or North Georgia Mountains when hiking off road be alert for Timber Rattlesnakes and Copperheads. No flip flops as tourists seem to live in. Hiking shoes if going off the beaten path such as Fires Creek! Vogel State Park in Georgia (past Blairsville on the road leading to Blood Mountain) has a beautiful waterfall!

So sorry that you were not impressed with our River Walk. You were only at the Konehete Park area (near ball fields, etc.) rather than the actual River Walk. The greenway follows the Valley River trail that includes a center loop at the confluence of two rivers. A portion is handicap accessible and all of the walk is puppy friendly. You needed to go over the bridge to get to the main part of the walk. Next time you visit stop in the Murphy Visitor Center for one of their brochures. There is a detailed map which would have shown you the entire walk. So sorry that you were not happy. It is absolutely beautiful and volunteers work very hard to keep it appealing.

I LOVE the River Walk. I am sorry if somehow my review did not reflect that. It is a beautiful walk, along the river, in the trees, a walkway over the river. Great place to walk or jog. The children's playground is great, there are tennis courts, pickleball courts. If I lived in the Murphy area, I would be on that trail as much as possible!!! Joan
