We didnt go up in the light house, you can on certain days...depending on the season. There is a nice boardwalk across from the lighthouse that has informational plaques on it. We went in the late afternoon. The boardwalk does go down to the beach. Nice little stop for an evening stroll. Note: there is limited parking

The hours are very limited for this light house. we missed it by just a few minutes. call to verify before you make the trip. The beach is across the road and has a nice boardwalk to access it.

Such a unique design for a lighthouse instead of the spiral stairs they used the captains ladder design. It's a strength training for sure but we made it to the top for beautiful views of Oak Island. Off in the distance you see the oldest light house Old Baldy. Such a great experience

If you are a lighthouse fan, you should make a stop at the Oak Island Lighthouse. If you are not there on a tour date, the visit will not take long as the grounds are quite small.
The following is from the Oak Island Lighthouse website:
TOUR AVAILIBILITY (only on Wednesday and Saturday through April 30th: Top tours switch to Tuesday, Thursday and Sunday as of May 1st. ALL tours are only conducted in the mornings. No tours are offered on Major Holidays.
Parking next to the Lighthouse is limited but there is additional parking just east of the Lighthouse.

Very limited schedule to tour. Nothing to see there except the exterior of the lighthouse and that takes all of 5 minutes. It’s not as old as others along the banks. If you want a ticket to tour the inside you need to order tickets 6 months out. You can’t even walk the beach because parking has a time limit and is for the lighthouse viewing only.

Quite a physical climb- worth the effort. Fabulous views and the volunteers do a great job of sharing the local history and color. You do need to book ahead as they keep groups small.

Cool lighthouse. We messed up and didn’t schedule a tour. It’s apparently free and very easy. I’d recommended it if you were staying close by. We were just passing through and made an impromptu stop. Either way, a cool stop. The path leading up to it is nice as well as is the beach area you can walk along.

The tour guides were so warm and inviting, they were knowledgeable about the light and area lands. The climb itself is great, it’s like climbing a very large ship. My family couldn’t join my assent but, it was magical and beautiful. One of my top 5 light climbs.

Oak Island lighthouse isn't your old fashioned lighthouse lived in by a little old man and his wife trimming the wicks. Rather, it's a more modern version of light house with LED lights and really works! The climb up is not hard, and done by stairs (rather steep), but it's really high up there, so if you are fearful of heights you better pass on this one. The view from the top is outstanding well worth the climb.

This a great lighthouse to tour and you must be on the guided tour - reach out get a scheduled time. The tour gave us great information about the lighthouse and to get to the top you must climb up steps like a ships ladder style - very unique way.
