Truly exceptional museum. The people of North Carolina have created an absolute gem and they offer it to the public for FREE (donations accepted) - even those from out of state. The exhibits are extensive, very well-done, and of interest to all ages. The adjoining research center is quite a treat as well.

if you have never been to this museum in RALEIGH NC called the North carolina museum of Natural sciences before I highly recommend that you check it out because it's one of my favorite things to do in the RALEIGH NC area.
one thing that I have to say about the service there is that they are very positive and friendly and welcoming to all the guest and willing to answer any questions that you may have regarding on how to purchase tickets or what things you need to check out during your visit to this wonderful museum in the RALEIGH NC area.
One thing I have to say about the atmosphere of the place is that it's very welcoming and inviting when you first walk into the museum and overall it's just a wonderful place to enjoy a great time with your friends and family and learning about science.
Let me tell you about my experience from the last time that I was there it was amazing, and the people that were working there were super helpful and this museum is worth checking out If you have never been to this place before.
One thing I have to say about the cleanliness of this place is that it's very clean and organized and not a lot of trash or garbage anywhere around the museum they keep this place very clean and organized.
In my conclusion this place by far has exceeded my expectations for one of my favorite places to visit in the RALEIGH NC area and I will definitely keep coming back to this place the next time that I'm in the RALEIGH NC area and looking for fun things to do.

Huge museum and completely free! If this is the only museum of natural science that is closest to you then yes I would highly recommend this one. It’s four floors and two different buildings as well. The other building has a lot of labs in it for students which I thought was cool. You could see them researching through the glass. There’s a lot of information in this museum. If you read everything it will take you all day. I do like the snakes that they have. I was surprised to see an actual animal alive in this museum because majority of the museum is obviously from stuff that’s not alive, like the extinct dinosaurs, really cool and a really awesome giant sloth skeleton. I don’t know if I’ve seen that anywhere! And I travel a lot. If you have kids, this is a must. They do also have a café in here in case anyone gets hungry.

Free admission! (with a suggested donation - special exhibits are an extra cost). We visited the museum on a Sunday at around 1:45. Seems like museums are not a popular weekend activity around here, because it wasn't too crowded. Or maybe I'm just used to NYC crowds every where I go. But I am definitely not complaining about a crowd-free museum. We went through the exhibits pretty quickly (maybe about an hour and a half) since we've visited before, but it was just an activity to do with our nieces and nephew (they've also been here numerous times). There were some things that we skipped or breezed through, so you could easily spend 2-3 hours here. The museum is bigger than it looks. There is plenty of seating/restrooms everywhere, which was very convenient because you won't really need to double back.

I always come here when I'm in the region. A completely free museum even with special exhibitions. Lots to do and you're sweet for a while. Highly recommended.

We spent 4 hours here including lunch at the cafe and were entertained the whole time. Wonderful, clean and fun. I would definitely recommend for families with young kids mine were 5&6

My children are finally old enough to enjoy and appreciate this wonderful (and free) museum. We will definately have to take advantage of it this summer, but last August was our first visit and we enjoyed the bones and the different habitats, but the butterfly and sloth garden was the highlight. The sloth came down and ate while we were in there and we had numerous butterflies land on us-wow! Such a great museum in downtown Raleigh

We really appreciate that Raleigh has a variety of free museums for the public to enjoy. There is parking on the street, or in parking lots. We went on a Sunday and it was really crowded. It made it hard to look at a lot of things and so we sort of rushed through the museum. This is a lot bigger than it looks, multiple stories and 2 buildings connected by bridge ways. It looked like they had some neat dinosaur exhibits, but you had to get timed admissions to enter so we missed seeing that. They also had some imax shows that you could pay for. Nice way to spend a bit of time in the city on a rainy day, but would be more enjoyable when not so busy.

This museum has so much to see, and the exhibits are always fresh, with lots of interactive displays. The latest addition is "Dueling Dinosaurs," a very complete set of fossils of a tyrannosaur and a triceratops, which carry "dueling" theories about what happened. As always, the multimedia presentation that goes along with it is top quality. While you're here, stop at the Daily Planet (reviewed separately) for some lunch, and then check out the WRAL 3-D theatre.

According to J Albert Erwin,head of Member and Visitor services, both museum locations in Raleigh have coat racks in their lobbies but they are not secured. "Items left there are left at the owners risk and discretion ". I hope this helps

You are not allowed to eat your home-brought food in the museum. However, you are allowed to bring your food and eat it on the outdoor Bicentennial Plaza. They have a cafe where you can purchase meals.

If you see all 3 floors in both buildings it will take 2-3 hours if you push it. Could take longer if you see a movie or one of the special exhibits. I always plan for half a day. The cafeteria serves pretty good sandwich and snack food. Hope you enjoy your trip there.
