The JC Raulston Arboretum is 10.5 acres of gorgeous gardens! It has an abundance of varying areas of garden rooms, structures, statues, water features, open areas, woodland paths, and benches—a photographer's paradise!

What a lovely garden, very cool on a very hot day under the trees sitting on the benches. The garden is very well maintained and free. There were not many guests when we went on a Saturday morning. Took a few hours to wander through. Definitely worth a stop if you have some time to kill and don’t want to spend a lot of money.

Beautiful, extensive grounds should please any garden lover. On par with even some of the national-level gardens I've visited in New York and Washington. If you live in Raleigh, you should visit at least once because this is a jewel in your city.

This place is filled with visual delights. Just to wander around and observe the major plantings is awesome, and there is always somebody around to answer questions. The Japanese garden was a real treat. The park is handicap accessible for the most part. You can spend as long or as little you like, and the best part is the price, $0.00 for all. It has a small gift shop where you may obtain a free map, and there are numerous shady spots to enjoy a leisurely lunch or read a book.

This is a very nice garden to visit. The pathways are not all paved or well marked. They do have a very large variety of plants from around the world. Most of the plants have name markers but are often covered by the foliage. There are several benches to rest and a very nice visitor center with bathroom facilities. Parking is available in a lot or there is also free street parking. Maps are available, but there is limited signage in the garden. There is no entrance fee. It is still a great place to visit

It is a nice way to spend an hour or two. It is a subtle experience, and will bore your children endlessly. The Raulston Arboretum is a natural garden.

This is a beautiful, natural garden. The focus is research-based education and gardening practices. If one wishes a perfectly hedged, manicured, aka butchered garden for only aesthetics, this is not the one. Immerse yourself, and watch the online education, Mark (Director) and team of horticulturists are brilliant, realistic, practical, and simply enjoyable to be a better educated gardener.

We read so many things about how great Moonlight in the Gardens was. I took my mom for her birthday and what a disappointment it was. It was embarrassingly unimpressive. There was very little to see unless a path of luminaries is what you are looking for. Save your money.

A small but significant teaching garden with well labelled specimens, an area of ornamental annual evaluations, a beautiful Japanese garden and a reference library.

Can I bring my dog to the arboretum and is there anywhere to bring a lunch in and picnic?

Pets (service animals excluded) are not allowed at the JC Raulston Arboretum, but guests may bring a picnic. Visitor etiquette information can be found on the JCRA's Web site at jcra.ncsu.edu.
Pets are allowed at several of Raleigh's parks. For a listing, please search the Web for "Raleigh dog parks."
