When I bought the tour from the travel agent (base travel) I was told I would learn how to survive, how to fish, make fire, hunt etc. but this was not true. I heard from other guests they were sold the same.
When I arrived on the island there was a variety of things I could do, all depending on how the tides were. You could do whatever you want because it is a self guided tour so you vs ecide what you do all day.
The guy in charge of the camp, Serg, and the girl who helped him, Ocian, were both really nice and helpful when needed. On my second day I was alone with them but I did not mind at all because I enjoyed the time with them.
There are also a few regular visitors everyday, these are the animals that walk around the camp and come by almost everyday. Harry and Maza the goana (lizard), Puss the possum and Turk the turkey.
The island is so nice and calming because there is nobody around
I'm in Australia for a year and I'm pretty sure I'm gonna be back somewhere in this year!

Right from the moment we were picked up in the Lark (car/boat) I was excited for what was to come. Serge (the main guy who lived on the isla d) and Osi (who was only helping for 3 months) both gave us all a warm greeting. It turned out I was the only one staying over night, but both hosts instantly made me feel welcome.
Although I went out with Serge and Osi for most of my trips, I recommend to anyone going there to go with a sense of adventure and willingness to do things. But do not expect to be told what to do and when to do it (Serge will give tips about the best times to do activities but will not wait wait around for you to go).
Equally don't go there expecting to be cooked for and cleaned up after, as Serge put it he's not a babysitter and doesn't take well to Princesses).
If you go there expecting things to be done for you and a programme laid out, you will be disappointed. If you go prepared to look after yourself (with guidance from Serge) you will have the best time, like I did.
The only criticism I have is a lack of advertising and I found the lady at reception not overly helpful/friendly when I phoned with questions.

I’ve opted for the 3d2n tour.
First a lark (see it as a ‘boatbus’) brings you to the island, where Serge (the local guide living on the island) picks you up with the quad. I could even drive myself, what was really cool! On arrival, it seemed to be that I was the only guest that night. Some people probably don’t like this too much, but for me it seemed liberating to be once alone on an island. Serge is a really friendly and goodhearted man, who gives you the freedom to choose to do whethever and whenever you want to do. Depending on the tides, you can go kayaking, fishing (incl catching the baith), sand boarding, hiking to the lighthouse, kangaroo spotting, going around with the boat, or just relax! It’s completely up to you what you make of this trip, Serge is happy to help you wherever you need it. I found it absolutely amazing to do as much within my own pace, you can literary go dancing and singing at loud on the beach, nobody is gonna judge. It gave me the idea of absolute freedom. It is also nice to just enjoy the art of doing nothing. Reception on your phone is hardly possible, but I think this suits the concept ‘castaway’. Amenities such as the camp, tents, toilet, kayaks... were in my opinion excellent, but remember you’re on a castaway adventure so do not expect hot showers etc.
To conclude, I had a really really good time on the island and I would definetely recommend it!
Although, I experienced that there is lots of space for improvement in general for the company, such as:
- Sorry, but the advertisement for the tour is not good. The pictures are outdated and do not show the beauty of the island and all the possibilities. Bring over a good photographer, create instagram, boost your facebook profile, post a cool movie.... Youngsters are not attracted anymore by banners or flyers. A good structure through all sources of social media is a basis that is really important nowadays.
- I called the owners of the company to enquire more information, as I’ve had booked the tour with an agency that did not give any. The person I spoke to was kind a harsh and unfriendly, it made me even feel sorry for calling. Good hospitality and communication at all times is worth a lot for a company.
- As prices for the tour are quite high, I felt dissapointed that I had to leave early in the morning on my last day. I communicated this to the owner, who first replied very annoyed. Later on it was possible to leave after noon. Just communicate on the site before booking that the last day can only be a morning. Explain also why prices are so high (fee for national park etc), so people can understand. This could prevent dissapointment within customers. I also feel that the extra dollars that you need to pay for dinner/sleeping bag/deposit are unnecessary, just include this in total price.
- In general, stress that the goal and soul of the company is to give people a great time on the island, rather than earning money and keeping your business running. But this is just my sight of experience.
I hope not to seem rude or arrogant with my feedback, it is absolutely not my intention. I just really believe in your concept and wanted to help you guys.

My friend and I went on this camping adventure tour may 2018, and we both had the most amazing time ever! The island is beautiful and there is so much to do from cave exploring,kyaking,hiking,sandboarding. Surg (our camp leader) was great and made sure we had a wonderful time. He also cooked delicious dinners.. This trip is great value for money!

Perfect day tour if your looking for something a little extra. Although, wouldn’t call it atour as you don’t have to stick to any planned itinerary. You get to enjoy the island at your own pace, doing whatever you want. Highly recommend can’t wait to visit again

We highly recommend this day tour experience to anyone at all, from young children to adults. It was FANTASTIC. Can not fault anything at all. There was so much to do, that we didn’t have time to fit it all in. There is certainly something for everyone. It’s great if you live local and looking for something different to do on a weekend with the family.

Had the best 4 days on the castaway island with a great group of people. Would recommend this trip to anyone doing the east coast or anyone who needs a break from reality for a few days. Good tunes all day, kayaking, sand boarding, hiking and if you bring enough alcohol you can expect to be drunk a fair bit too.
It is what it says on the tin, a ‘castaway’ trip so make sure you bring enough food and snacks, and no princesses.

First of, Serge, the guy on the island, is really nice and tries to make the best out of every situation. He was genuinely sorry for me because I was on the island during a cyclone and I couldn't do anything except for hiding from the rain in the camp or tent. I know the weather is nobody's fault but it just seemed like a waste of time.
The pros are that I think the experience can be truly amazing. With a nice group and when you actually get to do all the different activities. The only thing I could do was chill in a hammock and try some fishing. I also saw some great animals and had nice chats with Serge.
The cons are that they are apparently desperate for money. I don't know why they didn't cancel the tour or told me beforehand that I was the only one booked in there. I could have postponed it for a couple of days to go to the island with other people. But instead I was there all by myself which they didn't tell me until we departed. So I obviously felt cheated because there was no chance of a great group experience to begin with. They should let people decide if the want to go there by themselves and give them time to decide. Or just ask if they have the possibility to go a couple of days later with other people. I don't think that withholding that information is necessary and I was really disappointed and annoyed by that.
But I guess if you have the group and good weather you can do a lot of activities and really enjoy your self guided tour. And again, Serge is great and he is a really good chef as well.

It was one of my favourite stops up the East Coast! Everyone was so nice and I had the chance to meet some amazing people as well. Would have definitely enjoyed spending more time there!

I was just wondering if there is a briefing before the tour. So do I have to be in Agnes water one or two days early?
Also, when did you get dropped off again? In the morning or evening?

Hi,
You only have to check in 1 to 2 day before your tour by phone or email.
Your briefing will be the morning of your tour.
We cannot give a time of when you will return as we work around tides and swells. it will be before dark.
