As I live right next to this forest I love it. I walk my dog there. It is so peaceful yet rugged. What can you say about some that nature created and man is not allowed to destroy. Come and see it there are plenty of walking trails. Bring food and water.

In the Nerang National Park (accessed from the Nerang velodrome), there are some great mountain bike trails.

There were three new loops built specifically for the GC2018 Commonwealth Games which were held in April 2018.

The games are finished now and the world class trails are a legacy from the Comm Games!
I ride these last week and are riding really nicely as they were just groomed before the games.

There are some fast and flowy sections with some tighter technical bits too.

Great free park to ride in and nice and close to the Gold Coast.

The park has steep stony trails, suitable for strong walkers, and some mountain bike trails graded essy to expert. There are hours of walks but limited scenery and flora compared with nearby Mount Tamborine. Take a phone or GPS and water. Birds are very vocal early in the morning amd we also saw wallabies. Avoid in rainy weather as some of the steep trails would be very slippery.

We had a morning to spare and made the journey out from Coomera. We enjoyed an hour's walk and met only one person in the whole of that time. It gave us the impression of being totally alone in the forest though it was reassuring occasionally to see houses through the trees. The trails from the entrance at the end of Varrayne road were not well marked and information limited so best to research where you want to walk before you go.

Nerang National Park is part of the walk they do for the Kokoda Track endurance walk each year.It is typical bushland of South East Qld,with plenty of wild-life if you take time to find it. There are also bush turkeys and possums in the late evenings. The trees are mostly Bloodwood and grey dums, witha few vines mostly imported cats claw from South America. The tracks are fairly reasonable to walk, except be prepared for some difficult parts especially near the river, and some steep hills and gulleys! There are some great views to see.

There was quite a lot of activity at the beginning of our walk going on around us with mountain bike riders moving along some of the tracks.
So We took the fire trail fork in the park and proceeded to walk up the hill, I am 60 yrs of age and was able to handle it quite well there were a few steep sections that challenged me a bit but because I was moderately fit as I walk regularly every morning these were handled with slowing my pace down to give my body enough time to recover. There was a section for about a few meters where there was lots of small rocks and walking over these could be a little tricky but not impossible if one took care, slowed the pace down and watched wear you trod.
My daughter and fiancé were up ahead and stopped as they came across a very big Goanna climbing up a tree, it was about a meter long and looked very healthy.
I enjoyed the forest of gum trees and the bright blue sky above and at one point at the peak we were able to look through the trees out over the Gold Coast and see some of it in the distance.
We all had our water bottles with us so with this quenching our thirst we able to stay hydrated during our walk. The dappled shade from the trees allowed us to stay reasonably comfortable and not too overheated. It was late morning approximately 10.15 am when we departed, and were back at our car around 11.17am.
My son and I enjoyed also seeing the little baby Goanna that my daughter and finance discovered on the return leg of our walk, it was well camouflaged in the brown leaves so cute so there are families of them living in this national forest.
Would we recommend it for a short walk to unwind and recharge from the busyness we can get caught up in these days yes.
