Visit a piece of history right here! There's something for everyone and you can spend an hour or more easily as you browse through the aisles and step back in time!

While there are several branches of this store elsewhere, this is the original location from the early 1800's. Fun store to shop in or just to look around. Good place for local apple butter, penny candy, mountain clothing, hats, etc. The exterior still has some original artifacts, and there is an old school house behind the store.

We visited The Mast General Store and the Annex Store on our recent trip to Boone. It was a very neat store and fun to wander through. You can get a Coke and sit on the porch and relax for a few! We also visited the Annex Store just a little ways down the road. For a fun trip back in time, make sure you visit both!

What a cool place to revisit memories from years passed. You can find things at Mast that you probably thought were no longer made.
Allot of their stuff is over the top expensive, but if you look you’ll probably find some great deals too. I bought a pair of Keen’s Sandals for 2/3 off the normal price.
Careful in the candy area, you’ll find those candies from years ago…and I had zero control, a handful of this and a handful of that….$39 in candy!!!

A lot of the old candy and plenty of this and that. Unfortunately just a little too expensive for me. But a nice visit. Plenty of parking and a little off the beaten path. Worth a stop if in the area.

Excellent, old fashioned general store is a must see on your vacation! Has everything you need from candy to jarred pickles. Old wooden, creaky floors really take you back to the 1800's!

We visited on our first trip and came back. I mainly visited, and will continue to do so, to get my shaving soap. We have a store here in Roanoke but I would rather drive from Banner Elk through the mountains when we are in town than fight for a parking spot in Roanoke. We took advantage of the candy store as well; they have a big selection and some things I haven't seen since I was a wee laddie. My first trip ever to Valle Crucis was in 1976 or so and I remember the Old Man talking about how curvy the road was. The wife and I enjoyed the trip and the road is still as curvy as ever. No bother to me and a lovely day for traveling. We are coming back in February and we will probably visit again.

Great step back in time. A must stop when in the area. Features a working post office and 5 cent coffee, on the honor system. The old school house out back is a sort of outlet store and has some local school history memorabilia. They also have a annex store just down the street.

What a treasure. A must stop if you are in the area. Note there is another Mast General store in Boone, but it’s not the original store. The original is in Valle Crucis. Keep driving passed the Annex store.
Talk about stepping back in time. The building was built in the 1880s. There’s a working post office inside. There is so much in the store, so just take a leisurely stroll through the store. Home goods, assortment of candy, toys, books, clothes, footwear and more.
Loved this old general store. A definite must see.
