A lot of the old candy and plenty of this and that. Unfortunately just a little too expensive for me. But a nice visit. Plenty of parking and a little off the beaten path. Worth a stop if in the area.

Excellent, old fashioned general store is a must see on your vacation! Has everything you need from candy to jarred pickles. Old wooden, creaky floors really take you back to the 1800's!

We visited on our first trip and came back. I mainly visited, and will continue to do so, to get my shaving soap. We have a store here in Roanoke but I would rather drive from Banner Elk through the mountains when we are in town than fight for a parking spot in Roanoke. We took advantage of the candy store as well; they have a big selection and some things I haven't seen since I was a wee laddie. My first trip ever to Valle Crucis was in 1976 or so and I remember the Old Man talking about how curvy the road was. The wife and I enjoyed the trip and the road is still as curvy as ever. No bother to me and a lovely day for traveling. We are coming back in February and we will probably visit again.

Great step back in time. A must stop when in the area. Features a working post office and 5 cent coffee, on the honor system. The old school house out back is a sort of outlet store and has some local school history memorabilia. They also have a annex store just down the street.

What a treasure. A must stop if you are in the area. Note there is another Mast General store in Boone, but it’s not the original store. The original is in Valle Crucis. Keep driving passed the Annex store.
Talk about stepping back in time. The building was built in the 1880s. There’s a working post office inside. There is so much in the store, so just take a leisurely stroll through the store. Home goods, assortment of candy, toys, books, clothes, footwear and more.
Loved this old general store. A definite must see.

We had heard about this from others in our group, so we decided to check it out. First, we had the wrong 'one'...we went to the one 'in town' and finally found our way to this one. It is loaded with barrels of the forgotten candies, books and toys, cash iron skillets, shoes, clothes, and from the looks of it, most anything you might need or want.
It was VERY crowded and at the end of our day, it was not a pleasant experience. Rude customers, but friendly staff. I actually did purchase some stone coasters and a Christmas ornament which happened to be on sale. So I went away a happy customer. Would I return?? Maybe.

If you going back in time. Here it is, they have barrels of the forgotten candies, books and toys. Have a large section of clothing and outdoor wears. Friendly people.

Several years ago, we were in another store location. Since we were in the area we had to go to the original store. We enjoyed looking at the "old" stuff - the candies, signs, etc. as well as the "new" stuff. A fun way to spend a while just browsing. Nice beautiful drive to the store. Don't miss the annex also just a quarter mile down the road.

We were in the area and just looking for things to do and happened to find out about the Original Mast General Store. It’s totally worth the stop and the friendly staff was such a delight! Like stepping back in time going in this store (except for the modern merchandise 🤣). Very neat.

Our visit was one of our favorite outings while in Banner Elk. Would recommend to anyone. Actually the original store and annex. Nice drive to the store from Banner Elk.
