We booked the one-hour "happy hour" cruise. There was nothing wrong with it per se--we were seated on the top deck (arrive at least 30 minutes early to get a spot in line), the boat left on time, etc. But we were expecting a narrated tour, and what we got instead was less than 20 minutes of choppy, pre-recorded audio about the Lewis & Clark expedition. Rather than a story, it seemed to be a series of separate clips, each introduced with its own music, lasting a sentence or two, and then with a music outro, followed by a bit of silence before the next clip. We could have gotten the same information on Wikipedia--the fact that it was on the riverboat added precisely nothing to our understanding or experience. For the rest of the cruise, the speakers played 80s and 90s pop music.
We were expecting some of the narration to be about what we were passing on the shore, but there was none...possibly because the scenery on the shore wasn't all that special either: some nice homes and a restaurant, but that was about it. There were a few interesting buildings, bridges and parks that probably had stories behind them, but those remained untold.
Also be aware that the riverboat is actually a modern motorized vessel made to sort of resemble a paddle-wheeler. The faux paddlewheels on the sides are just for effect, though. They turn even when the boat is at the dock.
All in all, it was not an unpleasant trip, but more of a tourist trap than a memorable experience. Unless you really have an urge to cruise a fairly mundane section of the Missouri River, save your money and visit the Lewis and Clark Interpretive Center in Bismarck instead.

Getting our tickets and information for the Monday night cruise was smooth and easy. As was loading the boat and cruising down the river. They offer drinks and snacks on Monday. Many people brought water bottles with them.
The line to board the boat starts early so if you want a seat on top come early. We did not get there in time for this but since we have small children sitting on the main deck indoors was safer for us. The indoor area is air conditioned so don’t sweat it haha!
The Monday night cruise goes down river and then back up. They play some history at the beginning and then they played terrible music for most of the cruise until my husband requested them to change it. I definitely agree that instrumental music with no lyrics would be the best for the boat ride vs Nirvana.
We were hoping to have more history discussed since our oldest just learned about Lewis and Clark’s expedition through our homeschool. If you ever had a more interactive history tour we would do this boat ride again.

We took an evening cruise. It was a relaxing, inexpensive way to see the river and hear a little about its history. After the commentary was over, music was played - this was unnecessary and distracted from the scenery

Lewis & Clark River Cruise
If you’re a tourist, like me, and you want to say “I rode the Missouri river on a Riverboat”, check this out. If you are looking for something truly memorable, look elsewhere. That said, I Just finished a ”Sunset Cruise” and I have a few insights to share. It doesn’t matter how far in advance you book your cruise online. Un-numbered boarding passes are handed out when you arrive. Getting in line to board is the important thing! When we collected our boarding passes, we were told boarding would begin about 15 minutes before departure. What we weren’t told is “you should get in line as soon as one starts to form, if you want to be one on the 56 people sitting topside”, which is where everyone wants to sit. The boat holds 100 people so up to 44 are relegated to the interior. Believe me, unless there is inclement weather, you don’t want to sit inside. Looking through the windows is not the best way to see the scenery, but worse is the engine noise which makes listening to the narration very difficult if not impossible. Trust me, the only time you want to be inside is to order a beverage! Get in line early!

Had a relaxing float up the Missouri river. A short history explanation was provided after which music was played. Beverages were available.

Very disappointing we were expecting more information onLewis and Clark. They had recorded information that lasted maybe 15 minutes, the rest of the time was cruising the river looking at expensive homes. It was a relaxing time but we would never do it again

My husband and I were on a road trip and we stayed a few nights in Bismarck. My husband found the cruise and it sounded nice. The boat had plenty of room and drinks and snack were available for purchase. We were told there were bathrooms on board, but we didn't use them. The narration is automated, not live. The tour was about an hour.

We took a very relaxing 1 1/2 hr river cruise on what turned out to be a very nice day. Staff is friendly and pleasant. It was approximately $75 for 4 of us (2 adults and 2 kids) to take this cruise, well worth the cost in my opinion. Book in advance online, especially for weekend cruises as they get pretty full pretty quickly. I booked a week ahead of time and had no issues. 100% will do this again.

My wife and I took the sunset tour, they was easy to find, the tour started and returned on time. The crew was very nice.

Right now the riverboat office is in a run-down trailer underneath a bridge. And while they say they offer a 3 pm cruise, when we showed up to buy tickets for it, we found out it wasn't happening due to no advance sales.
But the sunset cruise later that day was a happening time. There were families, younger couples, older couples and the open upper deck was full. There was an exuberant crew member who periodically came up to engage with the passengers. It was a breezy evening so no Covid worries at all.
The ride features a recording with some historical background of what you are seeing, but it is too low and distorted on the PA system to hear well. After that they play music over it.
In the end the star attraction is the Missouri River, the bridges you go under, the riverbanks you go by, and after a while the setting sun over all of it. Very enjoyable and definitely worth doing.

What months does the riverboat run?
Right now as I sit next to the boat it is not running even though the website says May to September.

We were in town and drove right to the area. Its just a small hut and they take tickets as you walk up. Its a beautiful boat right up and down the Missouri river, but you will probably just have to drive there as we did and purchase the tix right on the spot. Its a small operation.

Has anyone held a wedding on the riverboat? If so, what was it like? I struggle to see how the bride can make an entrance or how well the ceremony goes considering the constant wind on top deck. Seems like a beautiful idea, just wondering how it all works out!

There was a wedding scheduled the day after our river cruise. We were told the bridal party was not going to wear the traditional gowns & tuxes. I don't remember it being windy but that is something you'd have to plan for just in case.
