Small zoo. Not a whole lot of "exotics" but all the animals were out, happy, and healthy. Very interactive with each other and humans. Great place for families. Was busy but it didn't feel like it which was nice. Good walking paths and facilities for those with disabilities or physical limitations. Had stroller, wheelchair, and motorized scooters available to rent. Good food and not too pricey. 10/10

Great local zoo, this small zoo had a surprisingly wide, The zoo train is a hit with the kids as well as the interactive displays.

Considering where it is, the Dakota Zoo isn't too bad. It does have a surprising number of unique animals that we've not seen anywhere else. But if you're expecting the quality of a major, big-city zoo like San Diego or Dallas, you'll be disappointed. Most of the animal enclosures are just chain-link fences with dusty ground and a few tree trunks and other things here and there, not the natural-looking environments that have become the norm at more modern zoos. (It does look like some of the enclosures are in the process of being upgraded though.) And because of its far-north location, you won't find some warm-weather zoo standards like giraffes and zebras. Still, it was OK for a couple of hours.

Family members from ages 5-74 enjoyed the day. The train ride at $5/ ticket is well worth it. I would allow at least half a day with smaller children.

I’ve never seen zoo animals so active! It was definitely worth our $70 and three hours. We did the train ride right when we got there which was nice to help us get our bearings and decide what we wanted to walk to see - impt for little ppl with limited walking juice. The ice cream shack was great and we liked using the rental strollers. Definitely a great option, esp for families.

Average trip. We arrived at approximately 2 pm and made our way inside to buy tickets to the zoo. As soon as we walked in, we were met by the petting area part of the zoo. There, we got to pet horses, donkeys and goats, with an opportunity to feed them as well. The zoo was huge, and contained large exhibits for the animals to roam around freely in. There were informational plaques located in front of each exhibit, that detailed several fun facts about each animal. I wish the plaques provided more background information on each animal. Also, the set up of the zoo was a little confusing. There were many loops and turns on the sidewalk paths and I did not feel like the transition from each exhibit was as smooth as other zoos I have been to. It was very easy to miss an exhibit or overlook something because of how the zoo was set up. I also did not enjoy the frequent train rides that rode past me, requiring me to move over to the grassy part of the park, in order to allow the train to pass.
Tip: I recommend spending 4 hours here if you truly want to see everything.

This is a great zoo to view animals, especially North American animals that most people do not get to see ever in their lifetimes living in the US. Very kid friendly. Very people friend. Excellent staff, friendly and informed. You can actually get to see most of the animals with your own eyes versus binoculars.. It is very clean and easily accessible. If you plant to visit the other 3 zoos in North Dakota, get an annual pass and they have reciprocal access to all of them. You can even use it in other states for free access or discounted access. It is an exceptional zoo with a great value!

Caring staff, love of animals apparent. Conditions of zoo well cared for. Staff remained wonderful despite sweltering temperatures.

During my visit, I observed a large company picnic / bouncy games for kids / scavenger hunt / live musicians/ and train rides. I also saw couples and families enjoying the zoo. The walking trails are good. Many of the animals were close to see and watch. The gift shop was busy.

Pretty good zoo for the price. Petting area for farm animals. Lots of Great Plains animals and a decent collection of big cats. Several animals or pens were not available, for various reasons.

I believe that only service dogs can be brought into the zoo itself (no pets). I would expect that you would need to advise the zoo staff at admittance that the dogs qualifies as a service dog. I know I saw no dogs on leash, etc. during my visit.

We have one electric scooter and several push type chairs available for free on a first come first served basis. We ask for a set of car keys or drivers license as security while you have them checked out. Please ask at the admissions window when you arrive at the zoo.
