A tour of this park is a must for visitors as a 3 part adventure. You may tour anytime alone but you get inside the buildings only with a guide, who provides great information. It is a short walk, easy and quick.

Decided to take a look at the park that we had only seen going by on the highway. The buildings are cute, lots of green grass space and plenty of picture opportunities. We had fun ringing the big bell by the school. The petrified wood garden was cool, too. There's a couple of covered picnic areas as well - and it's free.
We used it as a relaxing post-birthday breakfast stroll on a Sunday morning around noonish. There's was 5 of us adults and all we saw was another older couple walking their dog.
Today (Sept 2, 2018), none of the buildings were open, but we peered through all the windows as we walked all the way around the structures. We parked on the street next to the park, but could have also parked in the Badlands Dinosaur Museum's parking lot - it's right next to it.
If traveling through Dickinson in an RV camper/fifthwheel/trailer, you would be able to park in the Dino museum parking and get back out without any issues. It's also close to the on/off ramps for I94 in the center of town.
It would be good for families with kids that just need to run and stretch their legs. Moms and Dads could sit in the covered picnic areas for shade and kids are within seeing range. Also good for walking pets as well.
How long you stay is up to you.

The park game bed you a nice overview of prairie town life. There's a beautiful Veterans chapel and a WW I style victory garden adjacent to a house built during that era. Only problem was not every building had signage so if you visit after hours or in our case, on the 4th of July you weren't able to access a brochure. Nice walk in a beautiful park.

In the summer, Prairie Outpost Park comes alive with historical tours through its variety of buildings. I was fortunate to take visiting family through the one room school house when an elderly gentleman and his family were touring at the same time. The guide had the sense to abandon her 'stock' narrative and allow him to share his memories of the building and schoolroom as it was actually used, in the location from where it had been moved, when he and his siblings and neighbors had been kids. Yet the guide was available to answer our questions about how the building had arrived in the park. It was a very nice day and made all the more special by our fellow travelers that day!

Cute historical village adjacent to museum center. Nice 30 minute walk with multiple buildings to visit gives you a good sense of living on the prairie. Nice place to stretch the legs on a long trip.

We found this walk very cute and interesting but wish they provided more for children. They really need to work on appealing more to travelers with kids.

I parked at the dinosaur museum & walked on the paved path east of the museum right to the outpost park. Great walk for a beautiful day. Families leaving the dinosaur museum went here letting their young children run around. It's a nice place to have a picnic. They have a handful of trashcans & pet pickup bags. I'm planning a 2nd outing here with my spouse, as someone else stated you can ask for a tour. It's free so why not check it out. It's accessible too.

This is a lovely park that contains several examples of different cultures that settled in the area. There is also a veterans memorial building, and many buildings depicting life from earlier days such as an old school house and a train depot. My favorite buildings are the German rock house (has an area for animals to sleep inside like the old days) and the Scandinavian log house. The buildings are open for tour by request (they don't have enough staff to watch each building but they are happy to give tours even if you are just one person) and I believe maybe 2 special weekends in the summer when they have a cultural festival and serve ethnic foods and have local music. My friend married in the old church several years ago. To find it go east of McDonalds. It is part of the other museums including the dinosaur museum. I really don't know how you can miss it.

The picture depicting outpost park is misleading. I moved to Dickinson North Dakota a month ago and the first thing I did was look for the place in the picture needless to say it is nowhere to be found at least not in Dickinson. Very Disappointed!!!!
