This is a fascinating place to visit with plenty of free car parking. Staff are friendly and helpful and the story of salt making in Cheshire is covered at one of the few remaining traditional salt works. The information is generally clearly presented and includes quote a lot of oral history about what working conditions were like (awful!), but some of the technical descriptions of how the steam engine and vacuum salt making process were very complex. Some refreshments were available, but sadly nothing except crisps for vegans or those which a milk allergy.

A very worthwhile visit into an area of this basic condiment taken so much for granted. The list of uses for salt is endless.
We found it very moving that men were still working the giant boiling salt pans right up to the 1980’s in horrendous working conditions. The conversion of the saltworks to make it possible for visitors to see all aspects of salt production is a wonder in itself . The cafe is also great . Excellent quiche and cakes at very reasonable prices .

This was a wonderful find, so much information, never knew that salt was produced in this area, full of great information and such amazing value. Wished they still produced Salt.

First time visit to the Lion Salt works and very impressed. The layout is very well planned and easy to follow with many information boards along the way. There is a vert interesting history of the 3 salt towns Went as a couple but would return with grandson as I am sure he would be very interested. The Butterfly meadow is well worth a visit and very good outside seating areas. Food is available and the staff are very friendly and helpful.

We have had such a great day here. The museum was interactive and informative. The kids thoroughly enjoyed it and my Son didn’t want to leave. It was really well thought out and things were explained well.
The park was fantastic with an added bonus of a hidden butterfly garden we spotted as we were about to get into the car - which provided some free butterfly friendly seeds for us to plant at home.
The staff were so lovely and friendly and the cakes in the cafe were delicious. We would definitely visit again in the future.

I combined this with an earlier dip in the wonderful brine pool at Nantwich, so now feel i have a much greater appreciation and understanding of the role of salt and brine in this part of the world. A very evocative museum with excellent information, I so enjoyed myself and the very warm and informative museum staff made it even better.

I went with my dad on a Sunday morning, and discovered a world and history that I had no idea existed. The story of open pan salt extraction, and how it was linked to global trade, are well presented and the buildings - in a run down state that gives a better feel for what the industry was like - and exhibitions explain the process, trade and human involvement. Best of all, we were taken round by a fantastically well-informed guide, who brought the whole thing to life. Really excellent and good value at around £7.00 too

My husband and I paid an impromptu visit to the museum on our way back from Northwich. We discovered this by accident - but are we so glad that we did. We went on a sunny bank holiday weekend sunday afternoon and were surprised to find that there was only us and another couple on site.
The museum is rich in heritage and has been thoughtfully planned out, and suitable for all ages. Access isn't an issue - where there are stairs, there are lifts. Play areas, gift shop, plenty of parking, cafe, on the canal side....fabulous!

Having gone past this so many times when not able to visit, we were determined to make it whilst in area for a longer period - and we didn't get let down at all! Museum was far more extensive than anticipated and found it fasinating to walk on the wood that the salt workers would have walked on! Immersive display of salt pan was playing up so disappointed not to see it but it was overheating! History and story of salt production in area & at this factory was very informative and so impressed with what is available for children. It was quite a warm day when we visited but would imagine that it could be quite cold in cooler weather so may need to wrap up - and do wear sensible shoes as flooring is quite uneven all over the buildings!

We visited this gem of a museum on our way home. I love a bit of industrial heritage and this museum tells the story of salt in a clear way which makes it accessible to all.
There are lots of the original buildings to see as well as interesting graphic elements in salt sacks and packaging.
Children will enjoy the interactive elements- colouring sheets- cafe toys and children’s playground.
The cafe serves some lovely home baked cakes and good coffee (other items are available)
A good way to spend a couple of hours. Exit via gift shop…

Confirming other reply Yes a free and pleasant car park which is only feet away from main enterance and also has kiddies facilities and side exit to the canal walk.Which you should also consider .

They have scooters but you would not get the best out of this site as it's really an experiential exhibit. Narrow passages, steep stairs, awkward corners etc. You would get something out of it, but you would miss an awful lot.
