Wednesday 18th October 2023, My husband and I awoke to a overcast and drizzly day. We dressed up and then drove up to Belper in Derbyshire to meet our friend Janet whom we last saw in September 22.
We parked out car and Janet arrived and we all then went to visit the Derwentside Shopping Mill, this will be Janet's 2nd visit here and our third visit.
My husband, Janet and I entered this wonderful and amazing place with all sorts of objects de art, antiques, vintage clothes, house wares, records, antique and vintage jewellery, furniture and curios. We spent over two hours in this wonderful place.
On this visit my husband and I did not purchase anything. Janet came out with a gem; she purchased an Arthur Price of Sheffield full canteen of EPNS cutlery in a beautiful mahogany wooden box, which she had always wanted.
This is a good place to come as the stock changes and new things are always on display.

In reviews, sometimes the two shopping mills in Belper are mixed up. Derwentside Shopping Mill has over thirty traders. Larkin’s is one of them and Larkin’s won Derbyshire Antique dealer of the year in 2022. The mill is huge with a good selection of genuine antique furniture. The mill also has lots of desirable collectables both new and old. Don’t miss out the top floor where you will find Street clothing, eclectic items, quirky bargains, vintage, retro, selection of paintings and of course antiques. Currently, inexpensive, quality plants are sold at the entrance. Derwentside Shopping Mill has free on site parking. It does not have a cafe but places to eat and drink are close by. To walk to the mill from Kings Street - turn right at the bottom and then immediate left onto Derwent Street. The Mill is opposite the library (the old Thornton’s factory).

Something for everyone including Antique shop , fashion outlets all set within an old mill building including a cafe.
There was ample parking at the rear with a free 3 hour stay.

Modern Vintage Derbyshire
- Lovely old Mill, as you enter, your sense enters a world 100+ years ago! You can spend hours here browsing the items on display. Highly recommended.

Bank Holiday Monday 18th April 2022, Susan, my husband and I went to visit Derwentside Shopping Mill, this was our second visit to this amazing place and Susan's first.
The mill was originally called Unity Mill (quite an apt name as it now brings together 35 plus local like-minded artisans and antique dealers). The site that is Unity Mill stands on what was once part of the extensive estate of the manor of Duffield, under Lord of the manor Richard Paul Jodrell.
My husband, Susan and I entered this wonderful and amazing place with all sorts of objects de art, antiques, vintage clothes, house wares, records, antique and vintage jewellery, furniture and curios. We spent over three hours in this wonderful place.
We came out with gems; I purchased a circa 1900’s antique sterling silver pendant necklace in a very unusual design and set with Derbyshire ‘Blue John’ polished stones from the famous Blue John Cavern, Susan purchased a bronze 1920’s ‘Art Deco’ figurine of a naked lady holding a silk shawl between her hands, which she was really pleased with as she had always wanted one of these figurines.
This place is well worth a visit if you are in the area

Sunday 10th October 2021, we went to visit the Derwentside Shopping Mill, which has a fascinating history.
The mill was originally called Unity Mill (quite an apt name as it now brings together 35 plus local like-minded artisans and antique dealers). The site that is Unity Mill stands on what was once part of the extensive estate of the manor of Duffield, under Lord of the manor Richard Paul Jodrell. In 1798 the land, along with a package of property, was sold to a local man Mr William Walker. As Belper was then an up and coming town.
The mill was leased by a German company Roehms Ltd who made plastic colorants. In the mid-1990’s Machall Investments Ltd trading as Derwentside Shopping Mill became the custodians by lease and later ownership, and continue to this day.
My husband, Janet and I entered this wonderful and amazing place with its objects de art, antiques, vintage clothes, house wares, records, antique and vintage jewellery, furniture and curios. We spent over two hours in this wonderful place.
We all came out with gems; my husband purchased two albums (Led Zepperlin & The Goons) and a book on Medieval history. I purchased a brass Edwardian dressing table mirror for the bargain price of ten pounds. Janet purchased two pairs of earrings, two hand-made ‘Poo’ bags for two dog owing friends.
This is a wonderful place to visit if you are in the area.

Derwentside Mill is opposite Belper library on Derwent street. It has its own free car park. This spacious mill is well worth a visit and has many unique items. It has quality antique furniture, trendy recycled pieces, vinyl records, vintage jewellery, old stained glass, handmade toys and furnishings, lots of gift ideas and its own bespoke joinery business. I think it is a very friendly place and I recommend a visit to the ultra friendly Bluebell cafe on the first floor (currently for a takeaway snack and not open on Mondays).

Excellent. Spend hours in there. Good prices most dealers you can negotiate with. Wrap up warm in winter can get cold in there with it being a old mill. Worth a visit or too. Try n get there every month as new stuff arriving daily. One of the best around.

A lovely place to browse all manner of goods. Pleasant staffs & very clean & well organised. I bought two quality shirts for half retail price. Very impressed with the quality of items for sale. Will be back. Thank you.

Called here to visit Larkin's antiques which is on the 2nd floor. Was impressed with the amount of interesting items that are here. The shopping mill is inside a very impressive old mill building (as its name suggests). With some interesting history, it's a type of antiques centre with more than just antiques. We enjoyed an hour or two browsing, John was very helpful and informative and we will be returning on a regular basis. It's free parking too, great!
